What’s the best golf tip you’ve been given? Short Game guru Dave Pelz and the writers at the game’s leading website recall their top moments of instructional insight.
Portland, Ore. (June 7, 2011) – Golf great Sam Snead once offered this advice to a struggling student: “Stop playing for three weeks, then give up the game entirely.” Every golfer has considered following Slammin’ Sam’s prophetic words at some point. But it’s likely we also listened to someone else-a teacher, a voice on television, a casual acquaintance, our imaginary friend-and received a nugget of wisdom that turned our games around. At least for a hole or two.
This month we asked top instructor Dave Pelz and our writers at The A Position to pass along the best golf tips they ever received. Pelz, an actual rocket scientist, gave up his high tech career to work on something truly difficult-improving your golf score. His own most cherished piece of advice came from a physics teacher at Indiana University, and it has influenced every bit of teaching he’s done since.
Our in-house team of scribes reports in with sage suggestions on how to fold your arms on the backswing, secrets for handling windy conditions, and even clever methods for calling penalties on opponents. But an overwhelming amount of the advice they pass along involves how we use our minds– whether to sharpen focus or simply enjoy the game more.
During the warm weeks encompassing graduations and Father’s Day, advice is cheap. But ours is free.
