ORLANDO, Fla. (June 9, 2011) – Golfweek announced today that registration is now open for the inaugural Golfweek Women’s Challenge at Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Fla. Held the same weekend as the 2011 Solheim Cup (Sept. 23-25), the Golfweek Women’s Challenge is a brand-new match-play tournament, which gives female golfers the opportunity to compete on teams captained by former Solheim Cup players Nancy Scranton and Charlotta Sorenstam.
“Even though the Solheim Cup is being played across the pond this year, women golfers here in the U.S. can still get in on the action with the Golfweek Women’s Challenge,” said Armand Cimaroli, Golfweek’s director of events. “We are thrilled to be hosting a one-of-a-kind event that not only celebrates one of the most riveting tournaments in all of women’s golf, but also connects avid fans with golf icons who have actually competed in that tournament.”
In addition to playing in two competition rounds, attendees will enjoy VIP access to a host of exciting activities, including:
• A pairings party and welcome reception with Scranton and Sorenstam
• The Official Watch Party for the Solheim Cup
• A private showing of the video created for the 2011 Solheim Cup players by the LPGA
As an added bonus, participants in the Golfweek Women’s Challenge will also receive a weeklong pass to the CME Group Titleholders – the LPGA’s year-ending tournament, which will be held at Grand Cypress Resort in November.
Attendees who sign up by July 21 will receive $25 off the regular registration fee. Visit www.GolfweekEvents.com for complete tournament details.
