PGA Professional Mike Aldrich is participating in the 2011 Ironman in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The Ironman is a triathlon that consists of a 2.4 Mile Swim, 112 Mile Bike, and a 26.2 Mile Run. The race must be finished within 17 hours. In addition to his own internal desire, he is also using this as a vehicle to raise money for a great charity, The Neediest Kids.
Mike serves as PGA Assistant Professional at River Bend Club in Great Falls, VA where he oversees the daily operations as well as the Junior Golf Program. Mike also serves on the Middle Atlantic PGA (MAPGA) Board of Directors, and was elected President of the Central Chapter in 2009.
Mike has volunteered to instruct at MAPGA clinics for both the “Wounded Warriors” at Olney Golf Park and “Neediest Kids” at East Potomac Park. “Four years ago, I could not run ¼ mile without a break,” states Aldrich. “By my 40th Birthday, I decided to complete my first marathon, which had been a goal since I was in third grade. I dedicated that race to the Salute Military Golf Association and raised almost $1000 to provide free instruction and equipment to the heroes that protect our liberty. This time, I want to raise money for another worthwhile cause.”
Neediest Kids builds a bridge to success by giving low-income students the basic essentials they need to get the education they deserve, including eyeglasses, coats, clothes, uniforms, school supplies, food, personal care items, and other essential goods and services. Neediest Kids partners with ten school districts in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC and can be found at www.neediestkids.com.
