23RD ANNUAL HAVERFORD PHILADELPHIA PGA CLASSIC RETURNS TO SUNNYBROOK GOLF CLUB ON MAY 28TH WITH NATION’S LARGEST FIRST PLACE PRIZE FOR ANY PGA SECTION MEMBER TOURNAMENT

$100,000 Winner’s Check on the Line as Defending Champion, Mark Parson, Returns to Take on 137 Philadelphia Section PGA Professionals at Haverford Trust-Sponsored Event

RADNOR, PA – MAY 9, 2019 – With the largest first-place prize available from any event across the PGA of America’s 41 nationwide sections, the 23rd Annual Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic returns to Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting, PA, on May 28. 138 PGA Professionals will vie for the $100,000 first-place prize money, won in 2018 by Mark Parson, PGA Professional at Harbor Pines Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

“Thanks to Mr. Connell and Haverford Trust, our members in the Philadelphia PGA are presented an opportunity that is unprecedented, which makes this tournament so special,” said Geoff Surrette, Executive Director, Philadelphia Section PGA. “With a $100,000 first place prize, they are getting a tour-like experience and that’s pretty cool.”

Parson bested a field of 150 players (138 professionals and 12 amateurs) at Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting, PA on May 29th at the annual Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic, which is held on its traditional Tuesday after Memorial Day, and offers the largest first place check of any Sectional event in the country…$100,000.

Last year’s tournament saw PGA Professional Mark Parson best a field of 150 players, made up of 138 professionals and 12 amateurs. Parson finished at 5-under par with an overall score of 67. Close behind were Brian Bergstol of Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, Corey McAlarney of Squires Golf Club and Brett Melton of Radley Run Country Club, who all finished at 3-under par with a score of 69.
