Dallas Area’s Newest Award-Winning Golf Course Introduces Fun, Engaging Instruction Program for Young Players
(THE COLONY, Tex.) – The Old American Golf Club – a GOLF Magazine and Golfweek “Best New” selection in 2010 – introduces the “Eagles Junior Golf Team,” a fun and engaging program designed to help young golfers of all abilities improve their game.
Eagle Junior Golf Team instructors are from The Old American’s nationally-recognized Marius Golf School and include head coach Scott Robbins and assistant coaches Matthew Vahala and Sehan Filmalter. Marius Golf Schools are headed by director of instruction Marius Filmalter, a groundbreaking technician who has revolutionized the science of putting and is known for his work with Ernie Els and Tiger Woods.
The program will provide students (ages 6 – 18) instruction and the chance to compete in Northern Texas PGA Jr. Golf Foundation events. Golfers will be divided into three teams based on skill level and will receive different colored hats as they graduate from level-to-level. Advanced players will be outfitted with shirts, balls and a bag.
“The Old American’s Eagles Junior Golf Team will foster a love of the game we hope will stay with members their entire lives,” says Jeff Kindred, PGA General Manager. “The program also provides young golfers premier instruction and the opportunity to play in the region’s most prestigious youth tournaments.”
Participation in the Eagles Junior Golf Team requires an annual membership fee of $150 plus the cost of coaching, which varies depending on skill level and frequency of lessons.
Since opening in September, The Old American has garnered an impressive list of accolades, including being the only Metroplex course in Golfweek’s top 10 “Best Courses You Can Play” in Texas and “Best New” from GOLF Magazine, LINKS Magazine, Golfweek and AVID Golfer.

About The Old American Golf Club
Inspired by the ‘Golden Age’ of golf course architecture between 1911 and 1937, The Old American’s natural contours, hazard styles, native grasses and green shapes were influenced by such masterpieces as Shinnecock Hills, National Golf Links, Prairie Dunes and Crystal Downs.
Acclaimed architect Tripp Davis, an accomplished amateur player and former All-American at the University of Oklahoma and PGA TOUR/Ryder Cup star Justin Leonard, who played his college golf at the University of Texas, toured and played a handful of America’s classic Golden Age golf courses prior to starting the design process for The Old American.
The result is a golf course that emphasizes strategy and shot-making and flows with a natural rhythm from first tee to 18th green. The Old American features six sets of tees, ranging from the 5215-yard forward markers to the 7174-yard “Leonard” tournament tees. Davis and Leonard conceived the routing and layout with both medal and match play in mind, as golfers are required to hold “steady to par” through a number of holes, but enticed to gamble on birdie or better during select stretches of the course.
