June 29, 2011 – Birmingham, AL – Honours Golf is pleased to announce its participation in a pilot program for the new golf industry initiative “TEE IT FORWARD” partnered by the PGA of America, the USGA and The World Golf Foundation. This new initiative, which will launch nationwide July 5 – 17, is designed to help golfers have more fun on the course, speed up play, lower scores and enhance their overall experience by playing from a set of tees best suited for their abilities.
“We are thrilled to be supporting such a great initiative,” said Chief Executive Officer, Bob Barrett. “Over the last decade, golf participation has declined due to time constraints and the addition of longer and more difficult golf courses. It’s time to take action as an industry and make the game more enjoyable again.”
Starting July 9, all Honours Golf courses, located in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, are offering golfers a choice between three sets of tees based on the average hitting distance. The first set of tees will be from the “tips,” the second set from approximately 6,100 yards and the third set from approximately 4,600 yards. Each golf course will also try to make a minimum of one par 5 reachable in two shots.
On July 16, 23, and 30, each Honours Golf course will offer its standard set of tees along with the 6,100 yard and 4,600 yard tees. At this time, golfers will have a choice to participate in the “Tee It Forward” tees or play from the standard set of tees.
Each Honours Golf course will collect customer data, gauge the golfer’s experience, measure participation, and provide feedback relative to implementation and overall impact on the golf facility for the National Golf Foundation (NGF). The NGF will also survey participants from the Honours Golf courses and utilize this information along with the golf facility feedback for its consumer research study for the TEE IT FORWARD program.
Honours Golf is currently the sole organization assisting the National Golf Foundation in capturing research on behalf of this effort.
The following Honours Golf Clubs will be participating in the Tee It Forward Program:
