Titleist is the Top Choice across Every Major Equipment Category
Fairhaven, MA (June 30, 2011) – As the country’s top PGA club professionals gathered for their 44th national championship at Hershey Country Club in Pennsylvania, the momentum and unmatched success of Titleist across every major equipment category was evident once again. From golf balls to drivers, fairway metals, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters, more players made Titleist their top equipment choice at the 2011 PGA Professional National Championship than any other.
Not only did more players rely upon Titleist equipment with overwhelming success at the showcase event for PGA club professionals, David Hutsell, director of instruction at the Elkridge Club in Baltimore, won with it. Hutsell, who led the field in greens in regulation (60 of 72), emerged from a three-way playoff by topping fellow Titleist Staff loyalist, Faber Jamerson, with a birdie on the second extra hole. The third player was eliminated with a bogey on the first playoff hole. The trio finished regulation at 11-under-par 274.
Hutsell, who relies upon the Pro V1x golf ball, Titleist 910D2 driver (8.5), 910H hybrid (21), CB irons (4-P), Vokey Design sand and lob wedges, and Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport putter, leads a delegation of 20 qualifiers to the 93rd PGA Championship, to be contested August 11-14 at Atlanta Athletic Club. Last year, Hutsell finished sixth in the PNC and advanced to his first PGA Championship. Jamerson, a professional at Falling River Country Club in Appomattox, Virginia, is a three-time Virginia Open champion who was playing in the event for the first time. He also relies upon Titleist equipment from tee-to-green, placing his trust in the Pro V1x golf ball, Titleist 910D3 driver (9.5), 909H hybrid (19), AP2 irons (4-P), Vokey Design approach, sand and lob wedges, and a Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport putter.
Among the 20 players who earned invitations, more played Titleist equipment than any other brand. Titleist Staff loyalist Danny Balin, a teaching professional at Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich, Conn., finished fourth for the second straight year after firing a final round 8-under-par 63, a course record. Balin’s Titleist bag includes the Pro V1x golf ball, 910D3 driver (9.5), 910F.d fairway metal (15), ZB irons (4-P), Vokey Design approach, sand and lob wedges, and a Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 putter. Marty Jertson tied for 5th place relying upon the Pro V1x, while two-time defending champion and University of Illinois golf coach Mike Small did not win an unprecedented third straight PNC title, but still finished tied for eighth to earn a PGA Championship berth playing the Pro V1.
Overall, half of the PGA Championship qualifiers relied upon the Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball for their success, including seven full-line Titleist Staff members. In addition to Hutsell, Jamerson and Balin, full-line Titleist Staff players include: Stuart Smith (T12/Pro V1); Rob Moss (T16/Pro V1x), Craig Stevens (T16/Pro V1x) and Todd Camplin (T20/Pro V1), while Dan Olsen (T16/Pro V1x) will join fellow golf ball loyalists Jertson and Small in Atlanta.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the PGA PNC with 164 players, more than all other golf balls combined in the 312-player field. Titleist also swept the driver (146), fairway wood (293), hybrid (149), iron (148), sand, lob and approach wedge (382), and putter (110) categories.
It’s at venues such as the PGA Professional National Championship and 41 Sectional events where Titleist receives serious player affirmation that its equipment objectives of quality and high performance across every category are met and exceeded. Club professionals devote their careers to helping golfers improve and enjoy the game of golf.
