TEMPE, Ariz., July 1, 2011 – Dixon Golf, makers of the first high performance eco-friendly line of golf balls, will hold a golf ball recycling event at the Edwin Watts Golf Shop in Ridgeland, Miss., in advance of the Viking Classic. This marks the second PGA Tour event that Dixon Golf has recycled golf balls.
The two day event will be in conjunction with Edwin Watts Golf’s popular TGIF Tour™, a week-long event that is free and open to the public and provides consumers with the opportunity to test out the latest new product innovations, register to win an assortment of prizes and giveaways, and take advantage of spectacular deals. Dixon Golf will encourage people to bring in their used golf balls by giving a pass to the Viking Classic to the first one hundred people each day who bring two dozen golf balls to be recycled, along with an Edwin Watts Golf coupon for 20 percent off any one regularly priced apparel item. Outback Steakhouse is offering a $10 coupon to those who bring balls in to be recycled.
Dixon Golf held a recycling event before the Waste Management Phoenix Open in December of 2010. Over the course of three days, Dixon Golf collected more than 11,000 golf balls to recycle. In the months prior to the Open, Dixon Golf collected a total of 144,000 golf balls to be used in Waste Management’s water feature on the 18th hole at the TPC in Scottsdale, Ariz.
“Golf ball litter is a little known waste issue. Holding a recycling event before a PGA Tournament helps make people aware that you can go green by doing small things without sacrificing quality,” explains Dixon Golf CEO William Carey.
The eco-friendly golf ball manufacturer has made a splash in the golf industry since releasing the Earth ball in late 2008. Each year, more than 200 million golf balls are produced for sale. Eventually, they will either be lost or thrown away. By removing heavy metals from the core of the golf ball, Dixon Golf has made the first ball that is meant to be easily recycled.
The recycling event will be held on July 11-12 during regular store hours at the Edwin Watts Golf Shop in Ridgeland, Miss., A free ticket to the Viking Classic will be given to each person who brings in a minimum of two dozen used golf balls to be recycled as well as an Edwin Watts Golf coupon for 20 percent off any one regularly priced apparel item. The person who brings in the highest total each day will win a free dozen Dixon Fire golf balls ($74.95 MSRP). The
person who brings in the most total golf balls over the two day event will win a free Dixon Golf shirt and hat ($100 total value).
