Centennial Golf Club to host nation’s best juniors for second year, July 11-14
BRASELTON, Ga. – The AJGA will return to the state of Oregon, July 11-14, for the AJGA Junior at Centennial. This 54-hole stroke play event will feature 144 players from 12 states and six foreign countries. A total of 14 juniors will represent the host state.
Jay Burlison of Salinas, Calif., will look for his first win since 2008, where he captured the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic. Burlison is a rising junior and most recently tied for second at the Southern Junior.
Kevin Murphy of Rogue River, Ore., will return to the field after a top-20 finish in 2010. Most recently, Murphy tied for 10th at the AJGA Junior at Diablo Grande. Also returning after a top-20 showing in 2010 is Sulman Raza of Eugene, Ore. Raza finished tied for third at the 2009 AJGA Junior at Wenatchee.
Another local, Dylan Wu of Medford, Ore., will return to Centennial Golf Club for a second year. Wu has compiled three top-10 AJGA finishes over the last year including a recent tie for seventh at the Junior All-Star at River Ridge.
In the Girls Division, Allisen Corpuz of Honolulu, is the highest-ranked player in the field. At No. 44 in the Polo Golf Rankings, Corpuz won the 2010 AJGA Junior at Quad Cities and has compiled five top-five AJGA finishes in her career.
Amy Lee of Brea, Calif., is No. 45 in the Polo Golf Rankings and returns to the AJGA Junior at Centennial after finishing tied for third in last year’s event. Lee also tied for second at the 2010 Emerson Junior Golf Classic and tied for fifth at the 2011 Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club.
Caroline Inglis will participate close to home. The Eugene, Ore., native is playing in her second AJGA event after posting a top-20 finish at the 2011 AJGA Junior at Diablo Grande. Inglis also finished 11th at the Kathy Whitworth Invitational last March.
A practice round shotgun will be held Monday, July 11, at 1:30 p.m. First-round play will begin Tuesday, July 12 with first- and second-round tee times running from 7 – 8:50 a.m. and noon – 1:50 p.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at Centennial Golf Club. The 144-player field will be cut to 50 percent and ties with final-round tee times running Thursday, July 14 from 7 – 9 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the final round. Guests are welcome to attend and admission is free of charge.
