EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. (July 12, 2011) – Pascuzzo & Pate Golf Design (2P) has been retained to create a master plan for Midland Country Club, home to one of the legendary golf courses in Texas golf history.
Pascuzzo & Pate Golf Design is an innovative golf course design firm that offers a complete range of services to clients around the world. Established in 2003 by partners Damian Pascuzzo and Steve Pate, the company specializes in creating environmentally-conscious courses with distinctive character.
The Midland CC assignment adds to Pascuzzo & Pate’s current project list, which includes the complete renovation at the famed La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., an ongoing tree management and turf reduction program at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif., and the second phase of a unique redesign of all 18 “double green” complexes and additional fairway bunkering at Murasaki Country Club in Chiba, Japan.
Recognized as one of the most scenic golf courses in West Texas, Midland Country Club hosts the Nationwide Tour’s annual WNB Golf Classic, carrying on a tradition of championship competition that dates back to the 1950s.
The club, founded in April 1927, originally was located just north of the downtown area. and featured a nine-hole golf course with sand greens. Moving to its present site in 1950, a new golf course was designed by renowned Texas golf architect Ralph Plummer, opening in 1951.
In 1988, the golf course underwent its first significant renovation and, although it is turning 60, it has held the test of time. With that in mind, Pascuzzo & Pate will maintain the integrity of the parkland character of the golf course, while shaping the master plan to meet the challenges the game requires, and the membership desires.
Providing the ultimate in professional golf course architecture, consulting and renovation services, Pascuzzo & Pate has cultivated a distinctive design portfolio for an array of clients in the public and private sectors. In a relatively brief period, the unique tandem that comprises Pascuzzo & Pate has risen to the upper echelon of golf course architectural teams.
At the core of Pascuzzo & Pate is its vision for designing new golf courses. The company’s unique perspective is derived by a combination of nearly 30 years of experience in the field (Pascuzzo) with nearly 30 years of experience on the PGA Tour (Pate). Together, this collaboration produces exceptional results.
Pate experienced the Midland Country Club layout under championship conditions in 2010, when he played in the WNB Golf Classic. Finishing 30th, Pate managed to post the best birdie-eagle streak in tournament history in the final round, with birdies on the first three holes, followed by an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole.
Some of the award-winning work by Pascuzzo & Pate has been captured in projects at Monarch Dunes Golf Club, The Ranch Golf Club, Indian Pond Country Club, La Quinta Country Club, Blackhawk Country Club and La Costa Resort and Spa.
