Recently MATRIX Shafts made a donation of $14,000 worth of specially made junior golf shafts to the Get A Grip Foundation, located at Hidden Valley Golf Club in Norco, CA. These exclusive “Jayvee” shafts were crafted solely for the children at Get A Grip and were donated not only as a congratulations, but also an as encouragement to the students to keep striving for life composed of academics, life skills, and good decisions. “Companies fortunate enough to have success in terms of healthy sales and subsequent profits should always try to remember to reinvest in our communities. Educated, well rounded young people are always important to any business and to society in general. We believe that what Jay Miller has done with Get A Grip Foundation is what golf should be about, which is why we made our donation,” said Matrix’s Chief Financial Officer William Kang.
Get A Grip founder and President of Hidden Valley Golf Club,Jay Miller grew up working in a cart barn and pro shop at his local golf course. As he grew older, Miller realized that golf had given him a lot of breaks and provided direction in his life. Shortly after losing his own father, a friend asked him a simple question during a round of golf that would change the trajectory of his career. His friend had asked him what he would do with his life if money was no object. After thinking of various ideas to serve the game of golf and how he could give back to it, Jay realized he didn’t need to win the lottery to begin on that path.
What had originally started off as a thought of what he could do with lottery winnings, became aseventy-two page thesis of how to revolutionize junior golf. The thesis turned into the Get A Grip Foundation. The foundation has become a learning center for students to not only learn and improve their golf game, but also to learn the importance and necessity of academic success. Itis among the very few that can claim an educational facility with tutoring on the actual range. The foundation has now served 20,000 students through the years, who are not charged for attending. When asked about how the foundation has had so much success with the children, Miller says “Golf is our Hook and Education is our Mission.”
The program also with hopes to expand to reach more children that we may all see a more enriched generation that realizes the value of academics. Corporate partners are a key component of these efforts. Speaking further about these plans, Jay Miller said, “Matrix Shafts is a great and important friend to a nonprofit organization like Get A Grip Foundation. If you want to go fast in life, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others. I have several forms of donors for this foundation. The corporate partners are the base of the foundation. They are friends and supporters you can rely on. With differing donations, like the unique donations of specially made junior shafts from MATRIX Shafts, our foundation has been able to enrich the lives of our children. We are always looking for good citizens, both corporate and individual to help us expand the breadth and depth of what we do with these kids.”
