IRVINE, CA – July 25, 2011 – FOURTEEN GOLF, the worldwide leader in wedge design with 13 professional tour victories in 2011, announced today that Thailand’s golfing marvel Thaworn Wiratchant used FOURTEEN GOLF’s award winning MT-28 V5 Wedges to win the Indonesian Open.
Wiratchant won the Indonesian Open by one stroke. He played aggressive and consistent golf in the opening rounds – 68, 68, and 66. On the last day he struggled posting several bogeys but he fought hard to keep the field behind him. On the 18th hole Wiratchant used his favorite MT-28 V5 Wedge for a delicate 20-yard chip. He stuck it within inches and tapped in for the Indonesian Open title.
According to FOURTEEN GOLF COO Marcy Kamoda, “Chipping is SO important. It takes the pressure off of putting and in this case, won the tournament. That is why the engineering team at FOURTEEN GOLF works diligently to produce the best wedges in the world.”
The same MT-28 V5 Wedge used to win the Indonesian Open represents a long legacy of winning wedges. Its predecessor, the MT-28 V4 is known on several professional Tours as the “go to club” or the “money maker.” Its exceptional performance has positioned FOURTEEN as the wedge authority.
A 1-over 73 on the final round sealed Wiratchant’s 15th professional career victory – thanks to perfectly executed wedge shot. The sole of the MT-28 V5 possesses a flatter shape with a trailing edge and heel relief.
This new dynamic combination allowed Wiratchant to fully utilize the club’s bounce and execute a pure and solid shot. His total of 275 for a 13-under par earned him his largest paycheck of the season and his second Indonesian Open title. In 2005 Wiratchant won the Indonesian Open by five strokes at the Cengkareng Golf Club.
As Thaworn wrapped up his victory with a MT-28 V5 Wedge, Chawalit Plaphol used the 2010 Golf Digest ‘Hot List’ award winning TC-910FG Irons to shoot a 10-under par and tie for 5th place. These striking irons were developed for the touring professionals. The goal was to design a clean cavity back iron that combines a lower CG and MOI with the classic forged feel.
The traditionally shaped TC-910FG iron head is manufactured with soft Forged S20C steel and is slightly offset. Its compact head with precisely positioned CG and MOI provides exceptional workability for shaping any shot. In addition, the lowered CG height creates ideal spin rates for golfers with faster club head speeds. For maximum playability the design team employed a round wide sole.
“Our TC-910FG irons continue to be supported and played by professionals across the world. Their consistency, feel and stability through impact keep them in staff bags and on the Darrell Survey every week. We are thrilled that Chawalit played these irons so well to tie for fifth place,” added Kamoda.
