New York, NY (July 26, 2011) – A summer weekend excursion that not only bonds you with your children but allows you to compete against other families is headed to Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, New York this Friday July 29 (12:00Noon-6:00PM) and Saturday, July 30 (11:00AM-4:00PM) when The Family Golf Challenge makes the first of its summer stops on Long Island.

The Family Golf Challenge is an amateur skills competition, featuring a putting and long-drive competition, designed to introduce more women and children to the sport of golf. The Family Golf Challenge has already held events this summer at Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx, Galloping Hill Golf Course in NJ and Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in CT. Events are also planned on Long Island at Eisenhower Park and Bethpage State Park.

The event not only brings the family together but also gets them involved in a charitable cause. The First Tee of Metropolitan New York charity has been designated the Event Beneficiary and will receive $5.00 of each $15.00 registration fee.

Long Island National Golf Club was built in 1999 on the Gatz Family property which was once a thriving potato farm. Master architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. transformed the property into the world-class course it is today, recognized by many to be one of the most beautiful and exciting golf courses in the area.

“Long Island National Course is a true treasure and an ideal location to reach both vacationing families in the Hamptons region and those on Long Island looking for a fun activity to experience with their children and benefit The First Tee in the process,” said Bill Carroll, President and CEO of The Family Golf Challenge.

Whether you are an avid golfer or, new to the game, the program has been designed to engage two-person teams comprised of adults and kids (7-17) in a fun, rewarding and philanthropic experience. For more event information and to pre-register for participation in The Family Golf Challenge, visit: www.familygolfchallenge.com.

Cleveland Golf will supply drivers and putters for teams that do not want to bring their clubs to the competition.
