July 26, 2011; Phoenix, Arizona — On the strength of tour players’ enthusiasm for the new G20™ family and Anser® Milled putters, PING® introduces several new products that build on the company’s reputation for performance, innovation and fitting.
In addition to the G20 Series and Anser Milled putters, PING introduces the Anser forged wedges, Sydney™ putter, and seven new Scottsdale® Series putter models.
“It is very satisfying to witness tour players’ excitement for the G20 family and the Anser Milled putters,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “Tour validation is an important seal of approval and the G20 products and Anser Milled models are in high demand by the game’s best players. At the recent Open Championship, the G20 driver was our most popular model, with nine being used. We also had several Anser Milled putters in play.
“There’s a lot of new technology in the entire G20 family,” added Solheim. “Our engineers optimized the clubs to fit and benefit golfers of all skill levels. In the driver, we’re using for the first time a titanium alloy called Ti 8-1-1, which allows us to improve the weighting to better optimize the entire clubhead. When combined with our new, proprietary, high-balance-point shaft, our testing shows significant improvements in energy transfer, which leads to longer, straighter drives. The irons are more forgiving and feature a cavity design that includes an elastomer badge for improved feel. The fairway woods and hybrids offer golfers high-launching, forgiving options from all conditions.”
Various Anser Milled putters – seven models in all – are in the bags of PING pros Hunter Mahan, Angel Cabrera, Lee Westwood, Louis Oosthuizen, Heath Slocum and others. With the Anser Milled Series, PING updates the original Anser design of company founder Karsten Solheim. The new designs, which are precision milled from 303 stainless steel, offer various hosel configurations to match specific stroke types, and feature intricate design details to build upon the performance that has contributed to more than 500 tour wins and 26 major victories since 1966.
“The Anser Milled Series is special,” Solheim said. “The original Anser design created by my father has dominated the tours for more than 45 years. Few products in any industry can make that claim. With its design influence found in putters of most every make, the Anser has long been the standard by which other putters are measured. Our goal with the new Anser is to raise that standard by offering golfers a fully machined putter of the highest quality that fits their eye like no other.”
With the new Anser Milled models, PING introduces its Fit for Stroke™ putter-fitting concept. Every PING putter is balanced to fit a stroke type: straight, slight arc or strong arc. Each putter will include a shaft label indicating its matching stroke type. The company’s extensive player and robot testing offer overwhelming proof that when a golfer’s putter balance matches their stroke type, their consistency improves and they make more putts.
“Fitting is integral to everything we do,” said Solheim. “Our Fit for Stroke approach helps the golfer make an informed decision about which putter best matches their stroke. When used in conjunction with the iPING putter app, choosing the correct putter is made easier, and more importantly, it leads to improved consistency on the greens and lower scores.”
The Anser forged wedges are designed to complement the high-performance Anser forged irons. Forged from 8620 steel to ensure a soft yet solid feel, the Anser wedges feature a tungsten toe weight that optimizes the CG position and elevates the MOI for higher-spinning, lower-trajectory shots that maximize control and workability.
The Sydney model features a striking red alignment bar and maximum perimeter weighting for easy aiming and a new level of forgiveness. Seven new Scottsdale putter models offer golfers new head shapes and benefit from an innovative thermoplastic insert and face applique that delivers a soft yet solid feel for improving distance control.
New product descriptions and technical specifications:
G20™ Driver
For all ability levels, the external weighting of the large, forgiving G20 driver helps launch the ball high with low spin for maximum distance and accuracy by optimizing the CG location. PING’s proprietary high-balance-point TFC 169D shaft enables the golfer to swing a clubhead with more mass at the same speed, creating a higher MOI and generating faster ball speeds for long, straight drives. A large, variable-thickness face generates faster ball speeds and increases the MOI across the hitting surface for power and forgiveness. The 460cc clubhead is made from Ti 8-1-1, a lighter, lower-density alloy. Ti 8-1-1’s high strength-to-weight ratio allowed for additional weight to be strategically placed, increasing the MOI on both the vertical and horizontal axes.
-Drivers available in 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5° & 12° lofts
-Stock graphite shafts: TFC 169D (L, Soft R, R, S, and X flexes) and TFC 169D Tour (R, S, and X flexes)
-U.S. MSRP: $330
G20™ Fairway Woods
Getting the ball airborne and adding yards is easy with external weighting and a low-deep CG that produces high launch and optimal spin for long, straight results. The large, 17-4 stainless steel head and face increase the MOI to maintain consistent ball speeds across the hitting surface. Face height is optimized to offer a visually appealing, forgiving option from the tee or fairway. Golfers can optimize their ball flights by choosing either the higher-launching TFC 169F shaft or the TFC 169F Tour version for a lower trajectory.
-Fairway woods available: 3, 4, 5, and 7-woods
-Stock graphite shafts: TFC 169F (L, Soft R, R, S, and X flexes) and TFC 169F Tour (R, S, and X flexes)
-U.S. MSRP: $220
G20™ Hybrids
An offset hosel produces shots with high launch, low spin and a straight, boring trajectory for improved accuracy and greater distance. A shorter heel-to-toe length ensures playability from all conditions and provides a flatter lie angle and softer crown shape for an improved appearance at address. Additional bounce and camber create exceptional ground impact and ensure a
smooth transition through the grass, especially when the ball is sitting down. A large, internal weight inside the 17-4 stainless steel head provides forgiveness and distance.
-Hybrids available: 17º, 20º, 23º, 27º, 31º
-Stock graphite shafts: TFC 169H (L, Soft R, R, S and X flexes) and TFC 169H Tour (R, S and X flexes)
-U.S. MSRP: $175
G20™ Irons
The G20 irons hit the ball long with forgiveness and distance control. Extreme perimeter weighting in the deep, multi-cavity design makes the 17-4 stainless steel heads highly forgiving. A multi-material cavity badge made with soft elastomer heel and toe sections improves feel and sound. The cavity’s floating CTP structure stabilizes a thin face to generate fast ball speeds and distance with control. Combined with PING’s new CFS (Control, Feel, Stability) steel shaft, the G20 optimizes feel, trajectories and distance gaps for more consistency.
-Available 3-9, PW, UW, SW, LW
-Stock steel shaft: PING® CFS® (Soft R, R, S and X flexes)
-Stock graphite shaft: TFC 169i (L, Soft R, R and S flexes)
-U.S. MSRP: $97.50 per club w/steel shaft; $125 per club w/graphite shaft.
