(OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.) – Two clubs renovated by leading design-build firm Tom Hoch — Tulsa Country Club and Glen Oaks Country Club (Des Moines, Iowa) — are reporting record membership and food and beverage revenue increases, respectively.
Since Tom Hoch completed a sweeping renovation in August 2010, Tulsa Country Club officials have welcomed a host of new members ranging from avid and accomplished golfers to young families.
Prior to Tom Hoch’s work, the 65,000-square-foot clubhouse was vastly under-utilized. The golf shop and dining areas were isolated, limiting visibility, accessibility, staff-customer interaction and causing revenue to sag.
Using its proprietary revenue-based design model – a space planning, sizing and mapping process – Tom Hoch designed and built-out an interior with three functional sections (dining, fitness and golf shop) connected by a pedestrian gallery and themed transitions. The result is a clubhouse that drives revenue, increases operational efficiency and enhances the member experience.
“Tulsa Country Club has been totally transformed inside and out, and it all began with Tom Hoch’s creative vision,” says Jason Fiscus, general manager. “The beautiful new interiors and amenities created even more excitement about the club-wide improvements, spurred an immediate increase in club usage and revenue, and allowed us to attract 130 new families to the club.”
At Glen Oaks Country Club, where Tom Hoch redesigned and built-out member dining areas this spring, food and beverage revenue was up 133 percent in June year-over-year.
Last year, Glen Oaks was owned by the bank, lacking a true brand identity and member moral had reached rock bottom. The clubhouse’s interior was tired, dated and not capable of meeting the needs of a sophisticated membership.
Tom Hoch reinvented the member experience in a matter of weeks by rearranging existing spaces to create a fine-dining restaurant and a cosmopolitan bar and lounge. The renovation was made possible by Tom Hoch’s in-house studio, which allows for the seamless transition from design to build and creation of a best-in-class product. Upon completion, the entire interior was delivered to Glen Oaks and installed turn-key.
“Tom’s unique design concepts have definitely met the needs and lifestyle of our membership,” says Bill Kirkendall, general manager and CEO of Golf Resources Group. “Our distinctive dining and lounge options have increased member and family usage and have given us tremendous tools to grow our membership.”
“Well executed clubhouse renovations create spaces teeming with energy and are a show of commitment to the club that is, oftentimes, the difference-maker when it comes to membership and revenue,” says Hoch.
Recent U.S. and internationally-based Tom Hoch projects include: The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain (Marana, Arizona); The Members’ Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota (Florida); Farm Links Golf Club (Alabama); Glen Oaks Country Club (Iowa); TPC Valencia (California); Zavidovo Golf and Lake Resort (Russia); and Tulsa Country Club (Oklahoma); multiple projects with Troon Golf; Apes Hill Club (Barbados); and The Abaco Club (Bahamas).
