A love of the arts reveals Donald’s finesse with a paint brush; Donald also talks about life changes since becoming best in the world, and Feherty finds his own creative side with an ‘avant-garde’ tour of Chicago art
ORLANDO, Fla. (Aug. 25, 2011) -“Walk softly and carry a big stick, and you shall go far” were the words of Teddy Roosevelt, but just as well could be the motto of World No. 1 golfer Luke Donald. Whether he’s driving the world’s fairways or painting the next great masterpiece, the soft-spoken Donald wields a big stick in the two worlds he loves the most.
On the next episode of Feherty, Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, David Feherty sits with Donald for an insightful discussion about what it takes to be the best golfer in the world and how life changes when you reach the pinnacle. Donald also talks about his love of art and how it has become a therapeutic distraction when he’s not competing. Inspired, Feherty takes a tour of The Art Institute of Chicago and provides some unique critiques of what he discovers there.
Feherty debuted in June as Golf Channel’s most-watched original series premiere in its history. The show – with guests such as Charles Barkley, Don Cheadle and Johnny Miller – has been called “a cross between Oprah Winfrey and Johnny Carson” by The New York Times, “must-see TV” by the Orange County Register, and “a show that has all the ingredients to be a breakout hit” by The Augusta Chronicle.
A native Englishman, Donald played golf and studied art at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He turned pro in 2001, and became No. 1 in the world earlier this year. He talks with Feherty about his new-found popularity, as well as:
How he handles demands on his time.
His reasons for firing his brother and long-time caddie, Christian, and how their mother reacted.
What he considers to be the best golf shot he has ever seen, and what he thinks of his best shot ever.
What makes him the most nervous.
Rounding out the remainder of Feherty’s freshman season will be a special hour-long episode with golfing legend and business magnate Greg Norman (Sept. 6); and NFL quarterback and star of the Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo (Sept. 13).
Feherty features what the Irishman host calls “unfiltered” interviews with well-known and outspoken people from the world of sports, entertainment and golf, along with unique stories and anecdotes from his brilliant, yet zany mind. Shot in settings both intimate and personal to the guests, Feherty displays an uncanny interview style that engages his subjects and brings out answers both honest and revealing.
