NAPA, CA – The Northern California PGA Foundation pays tribute today to two of golf’s local legends, PGA TOUR Player and 1996 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee Johnny Miller and Senior Vice President of Golf at Pebble Beach Company, RJ Harper, at the 4th Annual “The Langley – A Tribute to Legends.” The Langley is a fundraising golf tournament and social event designed to honor the game’s legends where proceeds are donated to community programs. This year’s event is being held at the prestigious Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa. Tomorrow, teams of four amateurs and a PGA Professional will compete in The Langley Pro-Am Golf Tournament at Silverado’s North Course, newly redesigned by Miller himself.
A Bay Area native, Johnny Miller is best known for playing one of the best rounds in golf history at the 1973 U.S. Open. RJ Harper is well known throughout Northern California and recognized as the Most Admired Golf Operator in the World by Golf, Inc. Magazine.
“Through the PGA TOUR and through my own Johnny Miller Junior Golf Foundation, I have always tried to exemplify the high standards of the game and our responsibility to give back to the community,” said Johnny Miller. “I am honored that I can help these tremendous organizations through the Langley and the NCPGA Foundation.”
RJ Harper added, “I feel so privileged to be a part of the Langley tradition and all the great work that the NCPGA Foundation does through its support of education and programs for the underserved.”
“Johnny and RJ join an impressive list of past honorees including Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Ken Venturi and our event’s namesake Jim Langley, former PGA TOUR player and long-time head golf professional at Cypress Point Club in Monterey,” explained Chris Thomas, NCPGA executive director and COO. “Their participation gives the event the recognition needed so that we may continue to support worthwhile charitable organizations and educational scholarships. Each year the goal is to impact more lives through golf.”
“The Bay Area truly has a wealth of golf talent – both on the competitive and business side. I continue to be impressed by the caliber of distinguished honorees who join us for this event,” said Jim Langley.
Supporting Worthwhile Causes
CIG Insurance Group is once again the title sponsor of The Langley event. The proceeds support many golf programs and organizations that reflect life’s positive values. As a result of The Langley, the NCPGA Foundation will make donations to Folds of Honor, an organization that provides post-secondary educational scholarships to the spouses and children of service members disabled or killed as a result of their military service to our great nation, as well as to Savings Strokes, a Golf Fitness and Training Program for stroke victors, which promotes rehabilitation through golf and The Langley Scholarship Fund for outstanding high school seniors.
