SAN MARTIN, Calif. (September 13, 2011) … Firmly established as Silicon Valley’s home to elite golf competition, CordeValle is ready to welcome golf professionals from both sides of the Atlantic for this week’s 25th PGA Cup, the first in a series of extraordinary golf championships to be played on the award-winning Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed golf course.
CordeValle is only the second venue on the West Coast to host the PGA Cup, an international competition matching a team of club professionals from the USA against a team from Great Britain & Ireland in a Ryder Cup format. Play begins Friday, with two-man team matches in the morning and afternoon, followed by a similar schedule Saturday, and then culminating with the singles matches Sunday.
“We have prepared the golf course to be in championship condition, which will provide some challenges for the professionals,” said Michael Marion, Director of Golf at CordeValle. “We are proud to host this prestigious event and look forward to some spirited competition.”
Immediately following the PGA Cup, CordeValle will prepare for the return of the PGA TOUR – and a highly anticipated appearance by Tiger Woods – for the Frys.com Open, Oct. 3-9. And later this fall, CordeValle will welcome back the annual Gifford Invitational, a premier men’s collegiate event, won last year by UCLA freshman Patrick Cantlay, currently the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world.
A private club and destination resort secluded along the inland foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, CordeValle offers country club charm, with 45 expansive rooms that create a secluded sanctuary, designed into the harmony of the natural mountainside landscape, overlooking the golf course and lush, rolling hills.
Tennis, swimming and the spa are also available, as is a taste of California’s famed wine country, with an on-site winery and vineyard right on property. Dining options include Il Vigneto’s Italian cuisine with contemporary California flair, the Lion’s Peak Grill, with relaxing indoor and outdoor patio seating, and the popular One Iron Bar.
A variety of golf packages are available for resort guests. Call (408) 695-4562 or visit the website at www.cordevallegolf.com for more information.
