ORLANDO, Fla., September 13, 2011…On the heels of celebrating its 50th anniversary, Doral Golf Resort & Spa, A Marriott Resort, has been named “Property of the Year” by Marriott Golf, one of the world’s premier golf operators. The award is based on performance excellence for current and previous years in various categories including golf sales, round improvements, customer satisfaction, program development, personnel development & leadership and more.
Receiving the “Property of the Year” award coincides with the completion of a $16 million renewal to the entire resort, including partnering with the PGA Tour’s TPC to rename the Blue Monster TPC Blue Monster at Doral; adding The Jim McLean Signature Course to the roster of Championship courses; enhancing the Great White, Red and Gold courses with TifEagle greens; renovations to The Spa at Doral, including a partnership with Pritikin Longevity Center & Spa; and the addition of the new Latin-inspired steakhouse, Mesazul, and the Bossa Nova lobby bar. As a result of these exciting renovations, the golf experience has been enhanced significantly, which is reflected in the overall increase in golfer satisfaction.
Also among Doral’s many accomplishments, the storied resort serves as the host venue for the longest running PGA Tour event in Florida. In 2007, Doral was selected as the location for the prestigious World Golf Championships (WGC), an event that showcases the greatest field of golfers in the world. The 2011 Cadillac World Golf Championship, which was contested on the famed TPC Blue Monster, represented the resort’s 50th PGA Tour event.
Further, Doral has assumed a leadership position within the golf industry when it comes to servicing customers, creating innovative programs with vendors and supporting the next generation of golf industry associates by participating in the PGM internship program. From hosting TaylorMade and Callaway mega product launch days, to providing unique entertainment opportunities for vendors and partners during the WGC, to offering an elite venue for golf outings and excursions, Doral is recognized as one of the premier resort facilities in the world.
“Doral is one of the most storied golf resorts in history, and we are thrilled to see that it has been restored to its original glory,” said Claye Atcheson, Vice President of Marriott Golf. “The golf team on property has done an exemplary job in providing a legendary golf experience for each and every golfer that visits, and they are very deserving of the recognition as ‘Property of the Year’ among our expansive worldwide portfolio.”
In addition to being honored as “Property of the Year” by Marriott Golf, Doral and its team have received numerous awards over the years, including being recognized by Golf World Business as one of the “Best 100 Golf Shops” for six consecutive years from 2005 to 2010; Golf General Manager Darrin Helfrick receiving the 2007 Most Admired Golf Operator in 2007 from Golf Inc.; and the White Course being recognized as the Runner Up in the Golf Course Renovation of the Year category in 2005 from Golf Inc.
