WILMINGTON, North Carolina, September 6 -Teeing off shortly after 7:00 a.m. on Monday, Country Club of Landfall (CCL) golf professionals raised over $21,000 through a marathon day of golf in honor of Patriot Golf Day and the Folds of Honor Foundation. Patriot Golf Day is a national, annual golf event supported by the PGA that takes place during Labor Day weekend to fundraise for educational scholarships for spouses and children of military families who have been wounded or killed in action.
CCL golf professionals, as a team played 508 holes of golf on the Nicklaus Course rotating their time between the Ocean, Marsh and the Pines. Each professional would tie a red, white or blue ribbon on the tee flags upon concluding the hole. “It was inspiring to tie the ribbons on the tee flags after finishing each hole and a great reminder of what we were accomplishing as a team and a club.” said CCL Head PGA Professional Sara Bush, “We set out to create an event to draw our members in to Patriot Golf Day and watching them follow along as we played and the significant dollars we raised, I think we all can be proud of what we achieved.” The flagsticks from Patriot Golf Day are currently flying on all Par 3’s on the Nicklaus Course.
Over 185 CCL members pledged their golf professionals. “I am proud of the fine support shown by our members for the Country Club of Landfall’s Patriot Golf Day,” said CCL Board President Lynn Meeker, “Our golf professionals did a fabulous job and we couldn’t be more pleased with the enthusiasm and time they put forth to raise support and awareness for such a worthy cause.” Upon hearing how many holes of golf have been played and the amount currently raised, CCL members are still sending in pledges, and the total keeps growing.
Each CCL golf professional played their promised amount, with Trey Howell completing the most with 108 holes. “After playing 108 holes in one day, I definitely feel I have earned some bragging rights amongst the staff here,” said CCL Golf Professional Trey Howell, “but truthfully, it was just a fun day with our club members and my fellow team of golf professionals to celebrate a great organization,” Howell continued, “I would do it all over again today if I could.” A final tally of the amount raised will be finalized on Friday, September 9.
