CORNING, California – Recognized as one of the most storied and prestigious golf tournaments in the state, the Northern California Open has been contested since 1920. Conducted by the Northern California PGA (NCPGA) in conjunction with the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) the Northern California Open Championship has a long and respected history. Names that grace its trophy include Archer, Lema, Little, Lotz, Jacobsen, Maltbie, O’Meara, and Sutherland, among others.
This three day championship, brought to you by proud presenting partner Rolling Hills Casino (www.rollinghillscasino.com), was contested at the home site of the Northern California Open Championship, Sevillano Links at Rolling Hills Casino Resort (Par 72) in Corning, California.
With a final three-day score of 10 under par 206, Jeff Rangel of Martinez, California added his name to the list of distinguished past champions as the 2011 Northern California Open Champion. The top amateur player, Kyle Souza from Chico, CA, finished the event with a final three day score of 1 over par 217. The top Northern California PGA Professional Mitch Lowe of Half Moon Bay Golf Links finished the championship in fourth place in a tie with John Cook, Golf Coach at California State University Stanislaus in Turlock, CA, with a final score of 2 under par 214.
Some familiar names from prior years’ events comprised the top of the leader board. The overall second place winner, Todd Fischer a past PGA TOUR player from Livermore, CA, won the tournament in 2009. While this year’s overall third place finisher, Ryan Thornberry of Ceres, CA, captured the title in 2010.
