Dennis ( HOF #105 ) – The Gene Sarazen Spirit Award ) and Laura Cone ( HOF #98 – Lynda Barco Spirit Award ) , residents of Hammock Beach – Flagler County, Florida USA and founders of the Governing Body of Caddies – World Caddie Headquarters – PCA ( Professional Caddie Association ) and the Evergreen Youth Foundation (dba ) PCA Caddie Foundation, were honored and inducted into The PCA Caddie Hall of Fame at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Chicago -Land on September 12, 2011. The induction ceremony was conducted in the media room by the Western Golf Association ( WGA) in concert with the commencement of the BMW Championship, part of the FedEx Cup series.
Dennis made the following statement upon receiving this honor: ” I accept the WGA nomination and induction into The Caddie Hall of Fame class of 2011, and I remain very humble in accepting this honor for many other loopers who walked the fairways as well. I feel it will help the PCA mission and our world travels to other countries as the PCA World Caddie Ambassador to set up PCA Caddie Academies, help foster scholarships, and help the kids get on the golf course so they can learn life, social and business skills while growing the game we love for future generations. In his letter endorsing Cone for the Hall of Fame, PGA of America CEO Joseph P. Steranka noted that “Cone’s tireless efforts to support the art of caddying and the golf industry have made him a true and loyal ambassador of the game. His passion and love for golf has enabled the Professional Caddies Association to help educate and certify nearly 14,100 caddies.” Cone, however, emphasized that “it’s not about Dennis or Laura Cone but the kids returning to looping – chasing golf cars, getting exercise, making money, being with good folks, learning golf and the Hall of Fame going to the WGA in Golf, Illinois in Chicago area.” PCA Caddie Hall of Fame Ambassador Mr. Alfred “Rabbit” Dyer ( looper for Mr. Gary Player for over 18 years ) said: ” I did not play golf to caddie, I caddied and learned how to play golf “. ”
Team PCA is committed to preserving a 500 year-old profession that has helped sustain the game of golf. The mission is also helping save the game by providing an avenue to get more folks and kids (both boys and girls) to the golf course. The PCA World Caddie Hall of Fame was founded by the Cones in 1998, and is supported by the Evergreen Youth Foundation (dba) PCA Worldwide Foundation. The first induction ceremony was held in fall of 1999 at the World Golf Village outside the PGA TOUR Stop and covered by the Golf Channel. It was announced that in October a press conference will be held to unveil the details of the HOF transferring to the Western Golf Association. More details on this will be released later.
