New Golf VIP Room Opens
The resort also recently opened its new VIP Golf Room, the latest addition to its new conference center wing. Golf groups can book the room for their own personal 19th hole, complete with beverage service and televisions to watch college and pro sports in Green Bay Packers, Michigan and Wisconsin fan country.
The room, which has comfortable living-room style seating for up to 20 people or 12 for a private dinner, has been a popular add-on for guys’ buddy trips, with direct access from the golf course and pro shop.
“We love that golfers can come to the U.P. and call the Island Resort Casino their home base,” said Tom McChesney, CEO of the Island Resort & Casino, which owns and operates Sweetgrass on the property. “You can enjoy the gaming, dining, and entertainment options at the resort with great golf at Sweetgrass and surrounding courses.”
Sweetgrass Announces 2012 Dates for Island Resort Championship
Sweetgrass will welcome the return of the LPGA Futures Tour on June 29-July 1, a full week after 2011’s inaugural Island Resort Championship was successfully run. The slight date change will accommodate growth in the LPGA Futures Tour with added summer tour stops, and complete the championship prior to the July 4th holiday weekend.
“We are thrilled to welcome back such exceptional professional golf talent to Sweetgrass,” said Championship Co-Chair Tony Mancilla. “We received overwhelming support from our golf community for this event, and can attribute part of Sweetgrass’ growing popularity in the golf industry to hosting this championship.”
Kathleen Ekey, who shared fourth-place honors at the Island Resort Championship this year, took top honors on the LPGA Futures Tour money list, and has received an automatic exemption into the LPGA Tour in 2012.
Volunteers are currently being sought for the 2012 championship through the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, the presenting sponsor of the championship.
Perfect 4-Some Package Experiences Record Growth for Third Straight Year
Sweetgrass has also teamed with neighboring Greywalls and TimberStone golf courses for the exclusive Perfect 4-Some golf vacation package, which offers a round of golf on each course with a two-night stay at the Island Resort & Casino, starting at $265 per person.
The package continues to be one of its most popular golf offerings at Sweetgrass and the resort, enjoying record sales yet again this year. The Perfect 4-Some golf courses are all Top 20-ranked among Golfweek’s Top 20 public layouts in Michigan, and give golfers a variety of playing experiences in parkland, mountain, and rugged terrain.
The news of another successful season and growth in rounds played at Sweetgrass Golf Club bucks the U.S. trend, which shows more than a three percent nationwide decline to date (National Golf Foundation).
