One of the players who tied for third place at the PGA TOUR’s Tour Championship, the climax of the Race for the FedEx Cup, used Miura irons to expertly play his way to a career season.
The player, who began the week at 16th in the Official World Golf Ranking, also won the PLAYERS Championship in May, also using Miura CB-501 irons.
“We’re very proud of this player’s accomplishments with our clubs,” said Adam Barr, president of Miura. “We don’t use his name out of respect for his other endorsement relationships. But the fact is, this gentlemen chose Miura irons for his bag. Our company doesn’t enter into traditional player endorsement contracts — that is, we don’t pay him. So we do not presume to use his name or likeness.
“This player found our irons through one of our dealers, who happens also to work on the player’s clubs to keep them in shape for Tour play. He tried them in the spring and decided to work them into his bag right away — and promptly finished tied for third in his next start. All of us, and Mr. Miura in particular, are honored that entrusted his game to our clubs.”
The Miura irons the player used, the CB-501 model, are forged cavity-backs known for a perfect blend of technology and classic golf design. The cavity provides just enough perimeter weighting to improve ball striking, but the look at address suggests a classic, thin-top-line player’s blade. A weight bar in the bottom of the cavity lowers the center of gravity modestly, creating a flight that is high enough to land and hold the green, but that never balloons or loses its aggressive trajectory.
Since putting Miura irons into his bag, the player’s accomplishments include:
Won the PLAYERS Championship
Finished in the Top 10 in three other tournaments (T3, Zurich Classic of New Orleans; 2, AT&T National; T10 BMW Championship)
Improved Official World Golf Ranking from 46th in 2010 to 16th in 2011.
Improved FedEx Cup Performance from 15th place in 2010 to 11th in 2011.
