PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Keiser University College of Golf announces its new Legacy Apprenticeship program to help students obtain ‘real world’ experience as part of their golf management education. In partnership with the Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., the Legacy Apprenticeship will be awarded to two students annually, and they will receive first-hand experience working in the golf industry.

During the six-month paid apprenticeship, the award recipients will participate in three primary areas – golf operations, food and beverage, and golf course maintenance. Upon successful completion, the students will receive a commendation and a letter of recommendation suitable for a professional portfolio. The apprenticeship will begin November 2011 and run through April 2011.
“Academics are obviously an important part of a college degree, but there’s no substitute for real-world, hands-on experience and we’re very excited to partner with the Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in offering our students this unique paid apprenticeship program,” says John McMurry, vice president of Keiser University College of Golf. “Our staff at the Keiser University College of Golf is dedicated to providing the industry’s most comprehensive education, and we’re happy to work closely with the private clubs, manufacturers and other businesses to ensure our students have the ‘Keiser Advantage’ when they enter the work force.”
Located in PGA Village, Legacy Golf and Tennis Club is home to a 7,023-yard George Fazio championship course, as well as a 9-hole par-3 course designed by Jim Fazio. The Keiser University College of Golf features a 20,000-square-foot facility which includes a 1,500-square-foot indoor putting green, advanced launch monitor technology, TaylorMade MAT-T swing analysis system, an interactive golf simulator provided by ForeGolf powered by SIRGUL, and a golf club repair lab equipped by Mitchell Golf Equipment. Students also receive access to the highly acclaimed PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance where they can practice on a 35-acre lighted practice range, short game areas, bunker facility and extensive putting greens. Keiser University College of Golf also gives students daily access to PGA Master Professionals, such as Brian Hughes and Dr. Eric Wilson, as well as Golf Magazine top 100 teacher T.J. Tomasi, Ph.d.
Keiser University’s Associate of Science degree in Golf Management prepares students for a variety of positions in the golf industry. In this program, students are prepared to provide golf instruction, manage golf course operations, ensure appropriate maintenance of golf facilities and equipment, as well as integrate the play of golf into the broader hospitality and recreation domain.
