LAKE MARY, FL – Michael Vandiver and George Baker defeated one demon back in May in the ING/International Pairs World Qualifier at Innisbrook Resort. Now they hope to do what no other American twosome has done before – win the International Pairs World Finals.
Vandiver and Baker, principals in the Razor Golf equipment company near Tampa, head for Loch Lomond in Scotland next week to represent the USA and the ING in the eighth International Pairs World Finals Oct. 16-18. They earned that trip by winning the International Pairs World Qualifier at the 21st ING Spring Conference at Innisbrook Resort. The non-profit International Network of Golf conducts this annual networking and educational gathering of golf media and industry leaders.
The 8th Annual International Pairs World Final will be staged at Cameron House on Loch Lomond, Scotland, and played on The Carrick Championship course. Most expenses are covered for the two in the sponsorship arrangement between International Pairs and ING. Jackets Required also provides jackets for the USA team. Nearly three-dozen teams from countries across the globe will be competing.
Baker and Vandiver have come very close to winning the ING Qualifier in the past.
“One yipped putt here, one bad chip there…it was really disappointing,” said Vandiver. “This year, we were determined not to let that happen again.”
Baker, who also serves on the ING Executive Committee, expects good things from the twosome next week.
“We are excited to be representing ING and the USA, and we are ready to play well,” he said. “This is the trip of a lifetime, but we won’t lose focus on why we are there – to bring home the Honey Cup.”
The 22nd Annual ING Spring Conference is set for May 20-24 at Embassy Suites Greenville Golf Resort & Conference Center in Greenville, SC.
