TEMPE, Ariz., October 7, 2011 – Dixon Golf, manufacturers of the Wind ball, the longest ball in golf, have signed longdrive champion Mat “Hoss” Vilade to their professional staff. Vilade has been a professional longdriver since 2006 and holds the record for longest drive ever hit at the RE/MAX World Championship at 473-yards.
Earlier this year, Vilade won the American Power Golf Tour Metter Invitational by 21-yards with a drive of 400-yards. He is also the reigning champion of the Aldila Pro/AM Longdrive Challenge, where he drove the ball 450-yards. Vilade will play the Dixon Wind ball exclusively.
“Eco-friendly, or not, the Wind ball outperforms every other ball on the market,” says Vilade. “The first time I played it, I knew that I had to use this ball, and wanted to work with Dixon Golf.”
Through his charity work, he has appeared at more than 100 charity and corporate events, hosting long ‘drive and beat the pro’ challenges. Charity is important to Mat because of his own battle with Chron’s disease, something he’s been dealing with since he was 13 years old.
“I have spent many years ill and in bed, and I know better than most that there are many other people who are suffering in this world. Anytime I can use my talents to support worthy causes, I’ll do it,” says Vilade of his interest in charity.
The six-foot 270-pound Vilade was born in Gladstone, NJ. Despite being legally blind at birth, he went on to letter in three different sports in high school, win a New Jersey State Martial Arts Championship in 2002 and become a professional longdriver. Mat lives in Hideaway, Texas with his wife Danielle and son Cooper.
