(VIENNA, VA) – Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – owner and operator of more than 130 golf courses, country clubs and resorts – has been selected to manage Black Mountain Golf Course in the foothills of western North Carolina and 17 miles east of Asheville.
The engagement increases BCG’s management portfolio to three in North Carolina and 17 in the Mid-Atlantic. In 2011, the company has assumed operation of 15 private, public and resort properties.
BCG will oversee all aspects of Black Mountain’s operations, golf course and property maintenance, sales, marketing and public relations, staffing and training, merchandising, restaurant, financial management and special events.
“We’re excited to partner with Billy Casper Golf,” says Marcy Onieal, Town Manager of Black Mountain. “Golfers will realize the difference in exceptional guest service and first-rate course conditions.”
“Black Mountain is an excellent addition to the Billy Casper Golf family,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG. “The intriguing layout, natural beauty and strong tradition are formidable footprints for BCG to implement successful programs.”
BCG will enact its proprietary “BCGreen” initiative at Black Mountain to conserve, protect and enhance the environment. Black Mountain’s enrollment in the Audubon International “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” will increase efficiencies in maintenance, energy, water, pesticides, fertilizer, equipment wear and labor.
Located at the foot of the gorgeous Black Mountain Range in western North Carolina, Black Mountain Golf Course is an 18-hole, 6,215-yard par-71 public layout. Opened in 1929 as a nine-hole course designed by legendary architect Donald Ross, the back nine debuted in 1962.
With bent-grass greens, plush fairways, dramatic elevation changes and spectacular vistas, Black Mountain is recognized as one of the most pleasurable golf experiences regionally. Among the signature holes is the No. 17 par-6, 747-yard monster – at one time the longest hole in the world – requiring both extraordinary distance off the tee and imagination.
Guests will check in at the newly renovated golf shop, recently relocated to the building in the lower level of the parking lot, which also contains a variety of golf apparel and equipment. A new restaurant, planned for spring 2012, will serve a wide selection of food and beverages daily, perfect for post-round relaxation and soaking in magnificent views.
