French Lick, IN – University of Central Florida, led by Katie Mitchell, Monifa Sealy, and Kaitlyn Price, shot a final round 289 and rolled to a 5 shot victory in the Lady Northern Intercollegiate hosted by Indiana University and held on the historic Donald Ross Course at French Lick Resort in Southern Indiana. The premier ladies Invitational featured some of the top Big Ten schools and other leading programs from the Midwest and South including three squads ranked in the top 50.
UCF, No 54 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, claims their first victory of the season. Mitchell, Sealy, Price, and Caroline Pinegger combined to be 35-over par on the difficult Ross course and edged out Ohio State University by a close 5 shots.
Meagan Bauer of the University of Michigan claimed individual honors shooting a three-day total even-par 213, holding off Katie Mitchell from UCF by 4 shots. Rounding out the top five individuals were Casey Kennedy of Augusta State at 5-over, Kristin Paulson of Iowa State at 7-over and Kendall Prince of Ohio State at 8-over.
The highlight of the tournament was two hole-in-ones during competition by Lauren English of Iowa and Madeleine Sheils of Nebraska. English scored her ace on day one on the 130-yard No. 6 with an 8-iron and Sheils made hers in the final round on hole No. 16 measuring 133 yards also using an 8-iron.
Ohio State finished second with a final round 309 and a 54-hole total of 892. Rounding out the top five in the 12-team field include Michigan 41-over, Iowa State 44-over, and Augusta State 50-over respectively.
Other collegiate teams from the Big Ten included Indiana University finishing 6th at 64-over, Illinois 7th at 72-over, Penn State and Wisconsin T-8th at 73-over, Iowa 10th at 74-over, Nebraska 11th at 79-over, and Minnesota finishing 12th at 87-over. For more information visit www.golfstat.com.
