Donations will support the families of military service members who have been disabled or killed in the line of duty
Brentwood, Tenn., Oct. 11, 2011 – The Governors Club, the premier private country club of Middle Tennessee, participated in the fifth annual Patriot Golf Day during Labor Day Weekend last month. Golfers at The Governors Club, and across the country, united through golf to raise money for the Folds of Honor Foundation, a nonprofit organization which provides post-secondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed during service. This year, the membership of The Governors Club raised over $10,000 during Patriot Golf Day, setting a new club fundraising record for this annual event. Patriot Golf Day is supported by both The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association and encourages golfers to donate at least an additional dollar to their greens fees throughout Labor Day Weekend to fund Folds of Honor scholarships.
Throughout the last four years, PGA Professionals have been instrumental in raising more than $8.6 million for the Folds of Honor Foundation by hosting Patriot Golf Day events at their facilities. This continual support has allowed the Folds of Honor Foundation to distribute more than 2,000 scholarships internationally, in all 50 states and 41 PGA Sections. In 2011, the total number of post-secondary educational scholarship recipients will surpass the 2,400 mark.
For the first time this year, The Governors Club had active military and veterans greeting golfers as they approached the second green, explaining the importance of this fundraiser to members and guests. Additionally, The Governors Club has committed to donate a portion of every membership sold during the month of October to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
“It was great to see the tremendous support from our membership for such a worthy cause,” said Scott Baily, Head Golf Professional of The Governors Club. “We are honored to be able to help the families of the men and women who serve our country and have given us so much.”
