Spectacular final round 64 culminates in remarkable comeback win for number-one player in the world
Norcross, GA (October 24, 2011) – Luke Donald completed his greatest season on the PGA Tour by capturing one of the most significant victories of his career in stunning fashion, overcoming a five-shot deficit in the final round to win the Children’s Miracle Network ospitals Classic in Lake Buena Vista, FL. Donald yet again proved precision triumphs power, as he masterfully utilized his Grain Flow Forged MP irons, MP T-11 wedges, and Mizuno CLK Fli-Hi to shoot a final round eight-under 64, including a stretch of six straight birdies to begin the back-nine, finishing the tournament with a two-shot victory at 17-under par.
Donald, who secured his second PGA Tour victory this season, began the day trailing by $363,029 on the money list and needing to finish the tournament no worse than a tie for second-place. Donald’s victory concluded his finest year on the PGA Tour by earning $6.68 million dollars and his first ever PGA Tour money title, making a clear statement to become the 2011 PGA Tour Player of the Year. Additionally, Donald was the PGA Tour’s leader in adjusted scoring average at 68.86, earning him the Vardon Trophy. Now, Donald sets his sights on the Race to Dubai, the European Tour’s money title, where he leads by 1.3 million Euros. Donald is trying to become the first player to win both money titles in the same year.
“Luke Donald had an absolutely incredible year in 2011, not only on the PGA Tour, but also overseas on the European Tour, and we want to be the first to congratulate him for all the accomplishments and accolades he has received,” said Dick Lyons, Vice President and General Manager, Golf Division for Mizuno USA, Inc. “To come from behind like he did in the final round this weekend is a true testament to Luke’s heart and passion for the game of golf and we are happy to call him a Mizuno Brand Ambassador.”
