About the Desert Dunes Classic
The Desert Dunes Classic is an official Canadian Tour event with Official World Ranking points. Public welcome to attend the Desert Dunes Classic November 3 – 6 at no charge.
Desert Dunes is the ideal setting for this event as it combines classic links-style design with desert golf. Crafted by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course is widely considered one of the best tests of golf in the Coachella Valley.
It has been rated one of the Top 30 public courses in the United States and a Four Star Place to play by Golf Digest. Opened in 1989, the 6,876-yard course previously hosted events for the 1996 PGA TOUR Qualifying School and a 1998 U.S. Open qualifier.
The Desert Dunes Classic is scheduled between the first and second stage of PGA TOUR Qualifying School to help keep players sharp for the final stages of one of the toughest tests in golf.
“Some very prominent players have emerged from the Canadian Tour over the years, including Mike Weir, Steve Stricker, Tim Herron, Stuart Appleby and Scott McCarron” said Canadian Tour Commissioner Richard Janes. “With the quality of the Desert Dunes Course and the strength of the field, there’s a good possibility that this event will produce a champion we will be hearing about for a long time.”
Desert Dunes was acquired by a Canadian ownership group in late 2009. Kevin Martin, a member of the gold medal-winning Canadian Curling team at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, is part of the group. The Desert Dunes Classic is part of the group’s comprehensive, long-term improvement plan for the facility.
About Desert Dunes Golf
Desert Dunes is minutes from Palm Springs, yet vastly different in its setting and character. Like all great courses, Desert Dunes was discovered, not created. Etched into the landscape by legendary designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr., it is a stimulating composition of links design within a secluded desert setting. Undulating hills and abundant native vegetation give way to vast, unhindered sightlines. The beauty and solitude focuses your attention. It’s just the golfer and the elements, pitted in a contest that has tested many of the game’s great players, but at the same time brought great satisfaction to those seeking a different type of desert golf experience.
Desert Dunes Golf Club is at 19300 Palm Drive, Desert Hot Springs, CA 92240. The Club can be contacted by phone at (760) 251-5370, by fax at (760) 251-5371 or by email at info@desertdunesgolf.com. For more information on Desert Dunes Golf Club, please visit www.DesertDunesGolf.com.
