The beach resort city of Pattaya in Thailand is abuzz as the Asia-Pacific golf industry gets set to arrive on its shores this weekend.
It’s all systems go as golf legends like Tony Jacklin, Peter McEvoy and American tennis superstar Jimmy Connors headline the 2011 Asia Pacific Golf Summit that will open on October 31.
“Everything is perfectly normal in Pattaya,” said Mike Sebastian, chief executive officer of the Asia Pacific Golf Group, the owner and producer of the Summit. “Pattaya is not Bangkok – it’s like New Orleans is not America,” he explained. Using New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina as an analogy, he pointed out, “Bangkok is ravaged by floods but Pattaya is a whole two hours away from the capital city. It is safe. The international airport is safe. The super highway connecting the international airport is safe. Our events are a go!”
Pattaya will be host to a full week of activities that will feature the following conferences and exhibitions:
• 2011 Asia Pacific Golf Summit
• 2011 Golf Course Superintendents of Asia Summit
• PGA Conference of Asia
• The Inaugural ASEAN Golf Tourism Forum
• 2011 Southeast Asia & India Golf Merchandise Exhibition
“Our conferences have already signed on some 500 delegates and we expect a few more last minute registrations,” Sebastian said.
The business activities will commence on October 31 with the official opening of the 2011 Asia Pacific Golf Summit and end on November 6 with the staging of the Southeast Asia and India Golf Merchandise Exhibition.
“I just want to tell the world that our events are on schedule and that Pattaya is absolutely safe and dry. The floods are localized to the Bangkok region and it is going to be business as usual for us in this pulsating beach resort city,” Sebastian concluded.
