Napa, CA- The California Chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association has selected Silverado Resort & Spa in the world-famous wine country (Napa, CA) as the venue for its 2011 annual conference. The multi-day educational conference & golf championship is set for Nov. 6-8 and is expected to attract more than 300 course superintendents, vendors, and golf industry leaders.
Slated as keynote speaker is renowned golf course architect David McLay Kidd, named the “Hottest Architect in Golf” by Golf World and ranks well on Golfweek’s list of “40 most influential people in golf” (under the age of 40). Kidd is well known for his award-winning course design at such prestigious venues as The Castle Course-St. Andrews, Bandon Dunes, and TPC Stonebrae at San Francisco Bay.
Throughout the conference educational sessions will focus on timely topics of interest to turf care professionals– from worker safety to regulatory and environmental issues affecting golf plus valuable insight on ADA compliance, GCSAA H2B Program, GCSAA Sustainability, and Zero Waste Golf.
California GCSA President Rafael Barajas, CGCS, will present a state-of-the-state association report to the membership and industry lobbyist George Steffes will provide an informative legislative update. Bo Links, Esq., with the San Francisco Public Golf Alliance will discuss environmental advocacy and the fate of Sharp Park Golf Course (Pacifica, CA), an 18-hole Alister MacKenzie designed-course with historical designation, presently under threat of closure due to unwarranted claims relating to habitat.
“We are extremely excited about our 2011 state conference, where attendees will gain knowledge on subject matter that directly relates to golf course maintenance and operations, especially in today’s challenging economy,” stated California GCSA President Rafael Barajas, CGCS. “We are confident that participants will leave this conference better informed about conservation and course design, legislative and regulatory issues, plus a heightened awareness on the latest advancements in technology, equipment, products and related services.”
In addition to the educational component, attendees will experience an industry vendor/trade show as well as several social-related events throughout the 2-day symposium. Final conference highlight will be the annual golf championship scheduled for Tues. morning at Silverado’s North Course, recently renovated by Johnny Miller, World Golf Hall of Famer and lead golf analyst for NBC Sports.
