NORRISTOWN, Pa. (November 9, 2010) – For the second year, five four-man teams from elite private country clubs in Pennsylvania have been selected to compete in The Concession Challenge at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida. The event takes place on November 10, 11 and 12. The five teams will be joined by a sixth team of Concession Golf Club members. This invitational amateur event will be contested with the winner taking home the Concession Challenge Trophy.
The Concession Golf Club is the new private club in Bradenton that was co-designed by Tony Jacklin and Jack Nicklaus. The name commemorates the famous Ryder Cup in which Nicklaus conceded a putt on the final hole to create a tie between the teams from the United States and Great Britain and Ireland.
In the spirit of that great moment in history, the Concession Challenge has been created to bring members of clubs from Pennsylvania to The Concession Golf Club for a friendly competition with Concession members. The five Pennsylvania teams include last year’s second and third place finishers — Blue Bell CC and Cedarbrook CC — plus new challengers — Whitemarsh Valley CC, Squires GC and North Hills CC.
All visiting guest players stay in the Nicklaus Manor Homes on club property.
“We believe that last year’s event started a lasting tradition at The Concession Golf Club,” said Jimmy Wright, a renowned golf professional from the New York area who is now the official Ambassador of Golf at Concession. “This year our goal is again to make this a memorable event for all involved.”
The competitors will play a practice round on Thursday, then three nine-hole matches on Friday and two more nine-hole matches on Saturday. Points will be accrued per team and the winner will be crowned at the Champions Dinner on Saturday evening.
In addition to The Concession Golf Club, sponsors for the event include Antigua Golf Apparel, Yuengling Brewery, the Black Cat Cigar Company, the Line ‘Em Up ball marker and the 4 Yards More Golf Tee.
Television coverage of the event will be provided by the Inside Golf television show on Comcast SportsNet. The show will air multiple times during the week of November 20, as well as a two-week stretch On Demand.
Also, the GolfTalk Live radio show will be broadcast live from The Concession Golf Club on Saturday, November 12. Show host Tony Leodora will have a number of guests from Concession, including Tony Jacklin, on the show.
