PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, November 16, 2011 – The 12-woman team from the Washington D.C. chapter won the first national match play championship for the EWGA Champions Cup. Held at Orlando’s Reunion Resort on Saturday and Sunday, November 12-13, nine teams from throughout the country competed in 36 holes of singles match play over the two days. The DC team led the first day with 8.5 points, closely followed by the Windy City Babes from Chicago with 8 points. Washington held on to add 7.5 points on Sunday for a winning total of 16. Chicago placed 2nd with 15 points and San Diego came in 3rd with a 13 point total.

About the EWGA Champions Cup
The EWGA Champions Cup is a new women’s amateur team match play competition conducted by the EWGA. The two stages of competition included eight regional qualifiers, with 36 holes of singles match play completed over two days. The winning teams, including two teams from the Northeast region, advanced to the Champions Cup National event at Reunion Resort.
To qualify to play in the Champions Cup, members needed an established USGA handicap index. Twelve player teams were formed from participating chapter members with the lowest handicaps. Chapters with less than 12 eligible players were combined to form a complete team.
The teams that advanced to the competion for the Champions Cup included Orlando, Central New York (Syracuse), Westchester NY (Westchester Eagles), San Diego, Washington DC, Chicago Metro (Windy City Babes), Divot Divas (from Texas, Tenn., St Louis and Little Rock), The Green Team (from Colorado, California and Idaho) and One Birdie Short of a Dozen (New Jersey and Delaware).
