Tempe, Ariz. – Scott Watkins, a Class A6 Member of the PGA of America and the eleventh ranked instructor in Arizona according to Golf Digest’s 2011/2012 “The Best Teachers in Your State” rankings, recently joined the instruction team at the ASU Karsten Learning Center. Watkins, who was the former Director of Instruction at Arizona Country Club, will be responsible for giving private lessons, group lessons and clinics as well as club fitting to beginners, juniors, high and low handicappers and professional golfers.
“We’re excited to add Scott to our team of instructors,” said ASU Karsten Director of Golf, Daryl Crawford. “Scott’s vast knowledge and teaching philosophy will be a valuable asset to our Learning Center.”
Scott Watkins, a former ASU All-American, brings with him more than 31 years of experience in all facets of the golf industry. After graduating from Arizona State University he played four years on the PGA TOUR. He worked in all phases of the golf business until settling on his first love – teaching. Over the past 18 years he has held Director of Instruction positions at Camelback Golf Club, SunRidge Canyon Golf Club, The Phoenician Resort and Arizona Country Club.
“My career has taken me to several great clubs and courses throughout my years,” said Watkins. “But ASU is my alma mater and I’m excited about the opportunities there.”
Watkins’ easy going teaching style and philosophy makes it fun to learn the fundamental principles of golf. He teaches students how to improve every aspect of their game, from putting and short game to the full swing, and shows them how to practice using simple drills that speed up the learning process. Making extensive use of video, he’ll analyze each swing and show his students the cause of their issues and then how they can improve or have improved.
