SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The TaylorMade OB Sports National Team Championship presented by adidas Golf will be held December 9 through Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Raven Golf Club-Phoenix (formerly Raven at South Mountain) and Longbow Golf Club in the Phoenix/Scottsdale metro area of Arizona. Two rounds of tournament play will be played on Saturday and Sunday over both Longbow Golf Club in Mesa and Raven Golf Club in Phoenix. Longbow Golf Club is currently ranked as one of the “Top 20 Best Courses You Can Play in Arizona” by Golfweek Magazine and Raven Golf Club – Phoenix has been honored as one of the “Top 50 Public Courses in the Country,” by GolfWorld. Raven Golf Club – Phoenix will be hosting practice round festivities on Friday including TaylorMade demonstration, skills competitions along with the Ashworth Welcome Reception (from 3:30 – 6:30) in the Raven Golf Club’s event pavilion.
In total 168 national qualifiers are participating in the event, representing nineteen OB Sports affiliated golf clubs from throughout the United States. Each team will field an eight-person team (grouped together in four, two-person teams) made up of seven qualifiers from the club and the club’s golf professional. Daily prizes will be awarded to the top three two-person teams from each flight (Scratch Flight/low gross 1st, 2nd, 3rd place; A Flight, low net 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and B Flight, low net 1st, 2nd, 3rd place). In addition, “the cup” will be awarded for the overall TaylorMade/OB Sports Team Championship: each of the teams post its best three, two-person-team net scores, across both days of competition, and the team with the lowest net score is crowned overall champion. The defending champion is the team from We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, who captured the 2010 event that was held at their home course in Fort McDowell, Arizona. Other past team champions include High Meadow Ranch Golf Club (2009), Tijeras Creek Golf Club (2008) and Sandia Golf Club (2007).
“This years event is our largest yet as we have recently expanded the field and the event to be played over two courses for the finals,” stated Kris Strauss, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for OB Sports. “OB Sports clubs from around the country have been running qualifying events to field their team of finalists for the upcoming TaylorMade OB Sports National Team Championship. This year-end finale provides a great stage to gather our clubs and our cardmembers together for a few days of fun and of course, competition. Everyone is looking forward to the event and to teeing it up both of these award winning Arizona golf facilities.”
