Feel Golf introduces their SBST™ reverse-taper pistol putter grip at the 2012 PGA Show
SANFORD, Fla. – The 2010 Fed Ex Cup Champion did not have a very successful 2011 season until making a small change to his putter at the recent President’s Cup in Australia. There he posted five wins and zero losses to help guide the U.S. team to a 19-15 victory over the Internationals. Noticeable to golf enthusiasts and television pundits was that he had his putting groove back.
The difference may have been the unconventional upside down putter grip that he used in 2010 to win the Transitions Championship and reverted to at the President’s Cup. The upside grip was a “gift” from his father, a professional golfer/coach, who cut a hole in the butt end of the grip and installed it with the fat part of the putter grip at the bottom. The change helped improve his feel and consistency and is the same philosophy behind Feel Golf’s new “SBST”™ inverted pistol putter grip.
The “SBST”™ (Straight Back Straight Through) inverted pistol putter grip is modeled on the same principle as Feel Golf’s “Pro Release”™ performance grip and carries the ergonomic reverse taper technology of the Full Release. The “SBST”™ helps with a more consistent release of the putter head and is available in 4 colors, Black with Red or Blue or Yellow or an all Black.
The “SBST”™ concept came from the original design of their “Pro Release” grip that had input from multiple Tour players who tested the “Pro Release” prototype throughout Europe and the U.S. during the Tour season.
“The Tour player focus group came back and said that they liked the “Pro Release” and offered a few suggestions,” said Lee Miller, Feel Golf’s CEO (www.feelgolf.net) manufacturers of award-winning golf products since 1985. “They loved the smaller diameter at the top of the “Pro Release”™ since it fits much better into their fingers to reduce tension under the gun. On the shaft end, the focus group wanted a smaller diameter that could provide a later release at impact with accuracy and power.”
The “Pro Release”™ grip was designed to provide improved performance for the low & mid handicap and to prevent many golfers from “getting stuck”. With the grip’s smaller diameter, it provides additional benefit for players that cannot grip a traditional size grip due to joint afflictions such as arthritis as well as players with smaller hands, such as ladies and juniors.
The same concept is designed into our new “SBST”™ putter grip. Studies show that many players are unaware that they are not consistently releasing the putter, and yes, you must release during the putting stroke. One of Europe’s top players fought this lack of release problem for a few years and often missed his putts consistently to his right.
Only by calming down his right hand through the putting stroke, was he able to overcome and have a consistent release. This is one of the main benefits of our new “Straight Back, Straight Through” putter grip.
The “SBST” design is larger in the bottom hand and smaller in your top hand making it easier to align the grip in your palm. This helps in preventing your hands from breaking down during the putting stroke and causing those offline putts. The “SBST” can make your putting part of the game, just a little easier.
