HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Palmetto Hall Plantation Club on Hilton Head Island, SC, has been selected by the eGolf Professional Tour to host the 2012 season-opening event for the third consecutive year. The event, the Palmetto Hall Championship presented by the Westin Hilton Head Island, will take place February 15th – 18th, 2012.
“We are truly honored to be hosting the eGolf Professional Tour’s season-opening event for the third consecutive year,” said Ray Dznowski, Director of Operations for the Heritage Collection on Hilton Head Island. “With so many outstanding golfers participating in the eGolf Tour, this promises to be a spectacular tournament. Being selected to host this event is a fantastic compliment to the Palmetto Hall Plantation Club and a great showcase of the level of golf courses that are available to visitors of Hilton Head Island as a golf destination.”
For the Palmetto Hall Championship presented by the Westin Hilton Head Island at Palmetto Hall, a field of 216 players is expected to compete for an estimated purse of $235,000 and an expected winner’s share of $35,000. Players will split the first two rounds over the Cupp and Hills courses, with each player playing one round on each course through 36 holes before the field is cut for the final two rounds. The final two rounds will be solely contested on the Cupp course.
eGolf Professional TOUR players had terrific success in 2011, with 14 eGolf Tour players earning their 2012 PGA Tour cards via a top-25 finish on the season-ending Nationwide Tour money list, including 2010 Palmetto Hall Championship winner Russell Knox of Scotland (No. 12). Other notable players to finish inside the top 25 include 2010 eGolf Tour leading money winner and two-time champion in 2011 Jason Kokrak (No. 4), 2009 eGolf Tour leading money winner Scott Brown (No. 8) and five-time eGolf Tour winner Roberto Castro (No. 23). An additional 11 former eGolf Tour players earned their 2012 PGA Tour cards at Q-School in LaQuinta, CA, in early December. Included in those 11 players were Savannah’s Brian Harman, who lost the 2011 Palmetto Hall Championship in a playoff, and Beaufort’s Mark Anderson, who finished T10 at Palmetto Hall last year.
“We are thrilled to return to Palmetto Hall for a third straight year,” said eGolf Tour chief operating officer Stewart Moore. “The courses are always in immaculate condition and provide a stern test for our players, as evidenced by the 8-under and 12-under winning scores in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Couple that with the fact that both winners have moved on to either the PGA or Nationwide Tour, and it’s obvious that the venue is championship-caliber.”
