Englishman continues 11-year relationship with brand
CHICAGO, Dec. 28, 2011 – Wilson Staff, the brand with more Major victories than any other manufacturer, has announced the signing of two-time Walker Cup player Stiggy Hogdson as the 21-year old makes the step up from the amateur ranks to the Challenge Tour in 2012.
The highly-rated Hodgson, who has played Wilson clubs since the age of 10, begins his first full year as a professional player with the new Wilson Staff FG Tour V2 irons. He joins the likes of three-time Major champion Padraig Harrington and PGA Tour star Ricky Barnes, who have also put the brand new forged cavity-back irons into play for the forthcoming season.
The Sunningdale player enjoyed a fruitful time as a junior with back-to-back victories in the Abu Dhabi Junior Golf Championship (2007 and 2008), before following in the footsteps of Lee Westwood and Justin Rose to claim the prestigious Peter McEvoy trophy in 2008. As an amateur, Hodgson has accumulated seven top 10 finishes, as well as making it to the semi final and final of the 2009 British Amateur and 2011 Spanish International Amateur match play championships respectively.
“Stiggy has been in the public eye ever since his junior days, but especially since 2009 when he was the young star of his first Walker Cup match,” said Doug Wright, Business Director for Europe at Wilson Golf. “We’re delighted that he’s decided to continue his relationship with Wilson and hope he enjoys a successful first year on the Challenge Tour with the FG Tour V2 irons.”
Hodgson joins a growing list of high-profile players who have chosen Wilson Staff clubs for the new season. They also include 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie, Englishmen Anthony Wall and Steve Webster, Dane Andreas Hartø and PGA Tour stars Kevin Streelman and Barnes, who recently committed to a new advertising campaign promoting the Wilson Staff brand.
