Oneida Nation Homelands (Jan. 5, 2012) – Miles Blundell, Head Golf Professional at Turning Stone Resort has been selected by the PGA of America for two distinct honors in 2011, winning both the Junior Golf Leader Award and the Resort Merchandiser of the Year Award for the PGA Central New York Section.
An accomplished golf instructor who enjoys teaching juniors, Blundell was recognized for best reflecting the qualities and ideals of PGA golf professionals whose dedication to youth programs provides opportunities and experiences for juniors to learn and play better golf. Youth programs at Turning Stone include golf clinics for children with cerebral palsy, an event for The First Tee of Syracuse, a Play Golf Native America Day and the popular Junior Elite Golf Camp. Under Blundell’s direction Pleasant Knolls golf course has become a recognized PGA Family golf site, and Sandstone Hollow an official U.S. Kids Golf course. The Merchandiser honor, which Blundell also won in 2010, is given for excellence in golf shop operations.
Blundell, who grew up playing junior golf in Europe, holds a degree in Professional Golf Management and a minor in Business from Penn State University. A PGA Master Professional, he received his Class-A PGA membership in March 2005 and is one of the rare pros to complete all six sections of the Certified Professional Program.
The Central New York PGA is one of 41 geographic Sections which make up the PGA of America. With more than 200 PGA Member Professionals and apprentices promoting golf in upstate New York, the association extends from the Thousand Islands in the north to Binghamton in the southern tier.
