ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2012) – Golfweek – the most authentic, authoritative and independent voice in golf – will feature an exclusive season preview as part of its year-opening Jan. 13 issue. Designed to put golfers on the inside track as the new golf season unfolds, this anticipated issue not only provides an in-depth look at golf’s biggest events and hottest rising stars, but also presents the 2012 Golfweek’s Best Courses of Great Britain & Ireland lists.
“A new season brings endless possibilities and with that, there’s always great excitement,” said Golfweek Editor Jeff Babineau. “There are so many great storylines for 2012: Will Tiger win a major? Will Rickie Fowler win a PGA Tour event? Which side will bring momentum to the Ryder Cup this fall? We’re excited to see all of these stories unfold.”
Highlights from Golfweek’s 2012 season preview include:
• An exclusive profile of Rickie Fowler and predictions on whether 2012 will be his breakout year
• A look at what’s ahead for Tiger Woods, who has gone winless for the past two seasons
• A rundown of the 12 things to know about in 2012, including Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III, Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson, J.B. Holmes and the future of the golf industry
• Complete previews of the year’s major championships
• Full schedules from the pro tours, as well as listings of the top amateur, junior and collegiate events
In addition to the special season preview section, the Jan. 13 issue features the 2012 Golfweek’s Best Courses of Great Britain & Ireland lists, which rank the top 40 Classic courses (built before 1960) and top 40 Modern layouts (built after 1960). And while iconic courses like Royal County Down and Kingsbarns still grace the top of these annual Golfweek’s Best lists, the 2012 rankings also point out a number of newer tracks that are quickly making their way onto golfers’ must-play lists.
“One thing our ratings prove: They are still building great links courses in Great Britain and Ireland, and our raters seem to go to extremes to find places worth playing,” said Bradley S. Klein, national director of Golfweek’s Best Courses rating program. “Besides highlighting already famous coastal courses likes Royal County Down in Ireland (No. 1 Classic) and St. Andrews’ Old Course in Scotland (No. 2 Classic), we’ve identified spectacular and remote coastal newcomers like the four in northernmost Ireland on our modern list: Carne (No. 8), Enniscrone (No. 9), Ballyliffin’s Glashedy Links (No. 14) and Rosapenna’s Sandy Hills (No. 19).”
