LPGA legend joins political, medical, entertainment luminaries to advocate for health and wellness
(ORLANDO, FL) – Annika Sorenstam joined a host of luminaries at President Bill Clinton’s inaugural ‘Health Matters: Activating Wellness in Every Generation’ conference at the PGA TOUR’s Humana Challenge, Tuesday, January 17.
Hosted by the Clinton Foundation, the ‘Health Matters’ conference covered a wide variety of personal and community health strategies, and embodied the tournament’s charitable commitment to fitness and well-being.
Annika participated in an hour-long panel discussion titled “Building Healthy Communities.” Other icons appearing on the day’s schedule of events included President Clinton, Tim Finchem, Billie Jean King, Dr. Deepak Chopra, former congressman Richard Gephardt, Goldie Hawn and Jillian Michaels.
“The invitation from President Clinton to speak at this groundbreaking gathering was quite an honor,” says Annika, the greatest female golfer of her generation and winner of 72 LPGA titles. “Promoting health and wellness through better eating habits and exercise is a subject that’s near and dear to me and our Foundation.”
The ANNIKA Foundation, established in 2008, works with several leading organizations to promote healthy, active lifestyles for children, including a collaboration with The First Tee called Nine Healthy Habits. Its easy-to-remember categories are organized into nine pillars: energy, play, safety, vision, mind, family, friends, school and community. The Foundation also conducts three major golf events for aspiring junior girls, and hosts a variety of other events in support of its mission.
Adds Annika: “The Clinton Foundation’s commitment to ending the epidemic of childhood obesity and promoting healthy schools – among its many laudable initiatives – makes me very proud to have our foundation affiliated with it.”
