LAKE MARY, FL – There are still openings for four-player teams in the 3rd Annual $10,000 Timacuan Scramble, which will be conducted Monday, January 23, at Timacuan Golf Club in Lake Mary, FL. The tournament, which has attracted full fields its first two years, is one of the first events of what promises to be a busy PGA Merchandise Show Week in the Orlando area.

The format is a four-person scramble, with at least one player on each team being a professional. Teams may consist of all professionals.

Already in the field for the Timacuan Scramble are easily recognizable names from the three professional tours. Brittany Lincicome is the 10th-ranked female player in the world and was a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour in 2011. She is one of the longest hitters in women’s golf, ranking third in that category last year with an average of 267 yards off the tee.

Robert Gamez is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, including a dramatic victory in the 1990 Nestle Invitational at Bay Hill Club when he holed out from the 18th fairway on the 72nd hole.

Jim Thorpe has recorded 19 professional victories, including three on the PGA Tour and 13 on the Champions Tour. One of his senior tour victories came at a major, the 2002 Tradition. Other tour professionals already in the field are Robert Damron and Ty Tryon.

But this is far from a “tour-players-only” event. This team competition is a rare opportunity to play against and beat some of the best players in the world. Entries will be limited to 36 teams. Professionals will receive a check on site. Cash prizes can be substituted with shop credit upon request. Men will play the golf course from the Gold tees that measure 7,047 yards. Women will play the Blue tees that measure 6,531 yards.

The tournament will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Entry fee is $800 per team, and the field will be limited to 36 teams. Payout based on 36 teams is $10,000 for first place, $4,500 for second, $3,500 for third, $1,500 for fourth, $1,200 for fifth and $800 for sixth.

Registration can be completed through the Timacuan Pro Shop at 407-321-0010. Payment can be made by credit card, cashiers check, or cash, and must be received before being entered in the Scramble.

The semi-private Timacuan, designed by Ron Garl, is located near Interstate 4, just minutes north of downtown Orlando. It has been ranked as high as No. 14 in Florida.
