Staff and volunteers at Cherry Hills set to wear Callaway’s authentic performance apparel
CARLSBAD, Calif., January 23, 2012 – Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) today announced that it will be the official apparel provider for the staff and volunteers of the 2012 United States Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills Country Club. Callaway apparel, which is tested and proven each week on the professional tours around the world, offers a collection that blends performance attributes with a refined and contemporary style for a distinctive look and feel.
The 2012 U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills will be held August 20-26, marking just the second time the historic club has hosted the tournament. The last U.S. Amateur to be held at Cherry Hills was won by current Callaway Staff Professional and four-time major championship winner Phil Mickelson in 1990.
Callaway’s Spring 2012 collection embodies “authentic golf performance inspired by contemporary style,” meaning its core function is to perform flawlessly on the course in all weather conditions, but its appeal and versatility extend beyond the 18th green. The styling and technology in the 2012 apparel line serve a meaningful purpose on the golf course, allowing players to concentrate on their game while looking their best.
“We’re excited to outfit the volunteer staff at the 2012 U.S. Amateur Championship in Callaway apparel and work alongside the USGA at this prestigious event,” said John Melican, Senior Vice President, Global Soft Goods, Callaway Golf. “Callaway apparel is authentic to the game and performs under the most competitive conditions, which marries up very well with the values present at the US Amateur. We’re looking forward to displaying our latest offerings in front of a young, golf-centric audience.”
With performance characteristics that are authentic to golf-such as moisture wicking, strategic breathability and UPF 30+ protection-Callaway’s apparel line is worn by the Company’s Pro Tour Staff, including Alvaro Quiros and Trevor Immelman. The premiere level of technology and innovation that golfers have come to expect from Callaway Golf equipment is infused throughout the new apparel collection. The spring 2012 collection will feature new seasonal apparel assortments, such as the Links, Parkland, and Heathland series for men, and the Eclectic Prep, Bold Revival, and Spring in Paris series for women.
“Cherry Hills is thrilled to be working with Callaway to provide volunteers of the 2012 U.S. Amateur with a wonderful uniform package,” said Kathy Walker, Championship Director for the USGA.
Cherry Hills has a storied tradition of championship golf. Opened in 1922, the course will host its ninth USGA championship and second U.S. Amateur. The club has also been the site of three U.S. Opens: 1938, 1960, and 1978. It has also hosted two PGA championships (1941 and 1985), as well as the 2005 U.S. Women’s Open and the 1995 U.S. Senior Open.
