Company CEO Bob Selby sees his company’s breakthrough technology making the difference
January 24, 2012, Charlotte, N.C. – Grow the Game Golf (GTG) is armed with patent-pending Node programming language technology and poised to launch as the leading real-time scoring mobile application within the golf industry in 2012. The Charlotte-based company, which was formed in 2011 and is the first to use the Status4 technology, offers easy-to-input real-time scoring for all amateurs and professional golf events through the use of most smartphones and tablets.
“The key is the enterprise application architecture that is enabled by the Status4 technology stack.” says Bob Selby, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate with a background in information technology sales who is CEO of Grow the Game Golf. “There are a lot of companies that can offer real-time scoring for golf, but Grow the Game is the only one that can offer compatibility across the universe of mobile platforms at the touch of a key stroke. We definitely have the most innovative new product for the game. ”
The company has invested heavily in research and development and already has received rave reviews from tournament directors where it has been used. Those 2011 events include the Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship, the Tour Championship for the Carolinas Pro Golf Tour and the Golf Week Industry Cup.
GTG uses a web-based golf event management system and a cross-platform smartphone application. Each component is in constant communication with the other, providing the user with the fastest and most accurate real-time scoring possible. It is perfect for a high school or college tournament, as well as for the weekly play groups at the local club. Everyone in the field can see a real-time leaderboard, check on the status of selected games and view the field’s scorecards as play progresses.
For example, with GTG, a college coach will know where his team stands at any moment. Any large club championship could be viewed in real-time from the clubhouse on a large flat screen TV. It also provides all the local club amateurs with a real-time scoring leaderboard on their smartphones. GTG provides a free version so all pairings can participate. The addictive games are available through monthly subscriptions.
Knowing who played where, with whom, and what the hole-by-hole score was will reintroduce peer review for handicap posting and introduce interaction over social media channels during a round.
“There is truly something here for everyone,” says Selby, an avid golfer who has led sales management positions in a number of technology companies over the years. “The application is perfect for any golfer, regardless of age or ability, and will provide a number of scoring formats simultaneously.”
And now that cell phones, in silent mode, are being allowed on more golf courses for tournaments like those on the PGA Tour, fans will know much more about what is happening out on the course. After simply creating a member profile, spectators will be able to follow an entire field, hole-by-hole, viewing a continuously updated leaderboard and giving them a chance to go where the action is.
The younger generation golfers will enjoy using the interactive technology for social networking. GTG will be enabling any golfer/spectator to instantly post a comment about a hole-in-one, for example.
