NEW YORK – January 24, 2012…Some might say that the current economic fight for survival is like a “battle ground.” Never has this phrase been more relevant than in the case of one of Ireland’s leading clothing brands, but in the most exciting of senses! Irish menswear brand Kartel (PGA Merchandise Show Booth #6089) is off to a great start for 2012. Following a successful expansion into the U.S. market last year, they have just announced the launch of their new brand, G-Mac by Kartel, due for release later this year, in co-operation with top Irish golfer, Graeme McDowell.
When asked about the launch of the G-Mac brand, Kartel Managing Director Karl Swan replied, “When I first discussed the idea with Graeme about putting his own brand together, I really felt that the brand concept needed substance and meaning. And so I went away and had a think… and when looking into the genealogy of Graeme it was like opening a treasure trove.”
His family originates from the warrior MacDougal Clan of Scotland who were the princes of Galloway in the 12th Century and who were instrumental in the Scots defeating the English, resulting in Robert de Bruce being crowned King of Scotland in the early 1300’s.
The history of the family is littered with incredibly strong symbolism, and it seems almost ironic that now the sporting figurehead for this family is bearing the clan’s motto on his ball marker: “Vincere vel Mouri”… meaning “Win or Die.”
Graeme McDowell said of the new launch, “Working with Kartel on this project has been fantastic, their quality of product and people is as good as it gets, and I’ve worked very closely with them to develop a really nice collection that looks fantastic, and maintains the modern vintage style that I have grown to love.”
This collection will be a combination of the crafted style and vibrant colours that Graeme has become synonymous with, using only the most luxurious technical yarns, Pima cottons and fine wools, and will be available through some of the most prestigious golfing and high street establishments throughout the World.
Since signing their first endorsement deal in 1997 with Padraig Harrington, Kartel has gone on to become Ireland’s number one brand in men’s golf apparel and achieve huge global success, selling in 26 countries worldwide. And now with McDowell set to join Padraig Harrington and LPGA Star Anna Rawson as a Kartel Ambassador they are sure to continue their success at home and abroad.
About Kartel
Kartel is part of John Swan Ltd, a family owned Irish business based in Dublin, Ireland. We were founded in 1947 when a young tailor, John Swan, set up his own modest clothing company in two small rooms above a pub in Dublin’s Hill Street. Initially, the company began making men’s suits, jackets and trousers, but over the last 60 years we have extended our collections into a much broader offering.
In 1985 the Kartel brand was launched with men’s casual jeanswear and suit collections, as well as premium golf apparel ranges for both men and women. Kartel is now a leading Irish menswear label, we are one of the largest clothing distributors in Ireland and we are currently selling in 26 countries worldwide.
