(HILTON HEAD, S.C.) — The Sea Pines Resort announces its iconic Harbour Town Golf Links is No. 2 in Golf World’s survey of TOUR players naming their “Top 10 PGA TOUR Courses” placing just behind Augusta National.
Pete Dye’s seminal design and home of the RBC Heritage was prominently selected among the 81 players surveyed. Rounding the top five are Riviera Country Club, Pebble Beach Golf Links and Colonial Country Club. Harbour Town and Pebble Beach are the only two in this lofty group open to public play.
Player comments included: “My favorite Pete Dye course,” “The best course we play,” “…don’t need length for a great golf course,” “It’s a 10 because of great greens,” and “You have to shape the ball on almost every hole.”
“To have the best players in the world rank Harbour Town so highly is especially gratifying to everyone at Sea Pines, the RBC Heritage, and its tremendous sponsors,” says Cary Corbitt, Director of Sports Division of Sea Pines Resort. “It is one of only a handful of TOUR venues affording recreational golfers the chance to match wits against the Dye-masterpiece.
Dye says, “To be included in a list of world renowned PGA TOUR venues as represented, and then to be chosen as the second best is truly a great honor. We are grateful to all the players for this recognition.”
Harbour Town opened 40 years ago to much fanfare and just in time for a nascent PGA TOUR tournament called the Heritage Classic. Arnold Palmer staged one of his patented final round charges for the inaugural victory and the Lowcountry destination was launched as a golfer’s “must visit” locale. Famed golf writer Dan Jenkins says Harbour Town is “nothing short of a work of art.”
Sea Pines boasts two other outstanding championship layouts — Heron Point by Pete Dye and the Ocean Course. For more information about the legendary resort and its wide-variety of golf packages: www.seapines.com, 866.561.8802.
