(INDIO, CA) – In conjunction with Del Webb, Billy Casper Golf (BCG) will open the final nine holes of the North Course at Shadow Hills Golf Club for public play on February 1, 2012.
Designed by the award-winning Schmidt-Curley golf-course architecture firm, the North Course – located in the third phase of the Sun City Shadow Hills community built by Del Webb – is constructed to take advantage of natural plant materials which consume less water and promote ecologically-friendly agronomic practices.
Turfed with Hybrid Bermuda grass and dotted with flowering shrubs, the par-3 course is perfect for golfers to sharpen their iron games. With holes ranging from 135 to 210 yards, precision is paramount. Approximately 40 percent of the course is turf and showcases several water features, fairway undulations and a variety of tee boxes to challenge seasoned golfers and delight beginners.
“The North Course is visually stunning and enjoyable,” says Lead Designer Grant Haserot of Schmidt-Curley Design. “We created a unique look and feel to the Coachella Valley by incorporating natural desert areas into the design rather than a wall to wall carpet of unblemished turf.”
“This course is a perfect mix of water-efficiency, diverse play and natural beauty,” says Ryan Stremsrud, General Manager of Shadow Hills. “A par-3 layout is much friendlier and less time consuming than a full-length course, especially for new golfers.”
Shadow Hills Golf Club is enrolled in Audubon International’s Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses to ensure protection of the local environment, conserve natural resources and protect wildlife habitats.
The North Course debut comes just after the opening of 10 new model homes and a host of new amenities at Sun City Shadow Hills. The new 15,700-square-foot Santa Rosa Clubhouse contains the North Course pro shop. The course is pending an official rating by the Southern California Golf Association.
As with the 18-hole, championship South Course at Shadow Hills, BCG will manage all aspects of the North Course’s operation. This includes golf-course and property maintenance, staffing and training, clubhouse operations, merchandising, golf instruction, marketing and public relations, special events and financial management.
With a vibrant resort-style feel to the community and unparalleled amenities, Sun City Shadow Hills is bustling with activity since its opening in early 2004. In addition to golf and other amenities, the beautiful 35,000-square-foot Montecito Clubhouse is the hallmark of the community, hosting various special events.
